Say What? Chronicles of Narnia Pushed Iron Man Out of Top Spot

The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian, the second film based on C.S. Lewis's beloved books, topped Iron Man for first place at the weekend box office. Caspian managed a somewhat disappointing $56.6 on 3,929 screens. The film's predecessor, The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe made $65.6 in its opening weekend, and analysts had expected Caspian to best that number.

Iron Man's three-week total reached $222.5 million as it raked in another $31.2 million on 4,154 screens.

Far behind those first two films, What Happens in Vegas continued to surprise with its ability to get anyone to attend, let alone to make another $13.9 million on 3,255 screens. And Speed Racer continued to disappoint, making only $7.6 million on 3,606 screens in its second week.

With Caspian being the only new wide release of the weekend, an indie surprise managed to crack the top 10: The Visitor made $687,000 on 224 screens in its sixth week of release, good enough for 10th.

The rest of the best (or worst, as the case may be): 5. Baby Mama, $4.6 million; 6. Made of Honor, $4.5 million; 7. Forgetting Sarah Marshall, $2.5 million; 8. Harold and Kumar Escape From Guantanamo Bay, $1.8 million; 9. The Forbidden Kingdom, $1 million.
