Smell the Glove!

Whether you're a fan of the Yancy Butler TV series or a survivor of the "Bad Girl" era of mid-1990s comic books, there's good news on the way for Witchblade fans. According to a recent press release from Top Cow Comics, the scantily clad policewoman in the stainless-steel bikini-and-gauntlet combo will be making the leap to the big screen, in a co-production between Top Cow, Platinum Studios and Arclight Films. While production has not begun, we imagine it will be somewhere between the more realistic TV series and the hyper-erotic anime made by Studio Gonzo...but hopefully closer to the anime. (Leather jackets are great, but nothing puts butts in seats like metal claws supporting your cleavage.)

While the 2001 TV series did star the tough-but-sexy Butler, it only lasted two seasons, although that may have had more to do with Butler's entry into rehab for alcoholism than the quality or popularity of the show. It had solid ratings, and it certainly lasted longer than her previous attempts at TV series -- a full 23 episodes, all of which will be available on DVD this July.(Mann & Machine, on the other hand, only lasted nine episodes, despite starring Butler as a robotic detective, boasting Law & Order mastermind Dick Wolf as creator, and co-starring L&O's S. Epatha Merkerson. Where's that complete series on DVD?)

In a recent interview, Top Cow CEO (and Witchblade co-creator) Marc Silvestri revealed that there are also ongoing talks about a movie based on The Darkness, star of his own video game and frequent Witchblade crossover-er. And Platinum Studios is currently developing Cowboys and Aliens (a sci-fi western comic adaptation about those things), Atlantis Rising (by Transformers writers Kurtzman and Orci) and the Brandon Routh-starring Dead of Night (about supernatural Italian comics character Dylan Dog). Supposedly, Platinum also "controls an international library of more than 5,600 comic book characters which it adapts, produces and licenses for all forms of media." Wait...are there 5,600 comic book characters in the world? I mean, besides the Marvel and DC characters, which Platinum presumably has no stake in? I guess there are, but I don't know how many of those characters are actually worthy of being translated to other media -- the one volume of Dylan Dog I read was pretty cool, from what I remember, but it might have just been the cover by Hellboy creator Mike Mignola. Mike Mignola makes everything cooler.

I left a can of Coors Light on the porch after they ran me off. The next morning the can was rliofvoweng with drunk laid back stinkers. I've been trying various drinks and find they love Wild Irish rose but they tend to get a little strange acting. Openly hjaving sex right there on the porch. Using a twig as a stripper pole. Or maybe I just smoked to much weed that night oh well if you cant beat them join them just get them drunk.
