Welcome to Toys 'R' -- Why So Serious? Collectors and speculators everywhere are apparently snapping up Heath Ledger action figures left and right from Mattel's toy line for The Dark Knight. According to a (kinda) recent New York Post article, toys of Ledger as The Joker are hard to find, and go for double the price or more on eBay. Granted, this happens every time a new wave of Batman toys gets released, because there are always more Batmen than villains, but the frenzy over Mr. Ledger's likeness -- his only action figure so far - seems especially feverish. Which gives us a great idea for a successful toy line...

Heath Ledger: The Toy Line! Any company that undertakes this project would clean up at retail, since it would be entirely made up of Heath Ledgers, making every piece a collector's item! True, they'd pay a fortuned in licensing fees for all of the different films, but think about the lineup:
- Ennis Del Mar from Brokeback Mountain, with lasso and "Jack's shirt on a hanger" accessory!
- Skip from Lords of Dogtown, with surfboard and whiskey bottle!
- Robbie Clark from I'm Not There, with guitar case!
- Sonny Grotowski from Monster's Ball, with real vomiting action!
- William Thatcher from A Knight's Tale boxed set, with removable armor, horse and Shannyn Sossamon!

This could be a perennial cash cow for the right company if they put a line into production as soon as a high-profile celebrity dies. Think about it: The Roy Scheider Collection (toys based on Jaws, Blue Thunder and All That Jazz), The Brad Renfro Collection (Apt Pupil, Bully and Ghost World)...I don't know how exciting The Sydney Pollack Collection would be, though, since he wore the same outfit in every movie, but I'd buy one from Tootsie or Michael Clayton, if not necessarily Made of Honor.
