Unless you happen to be near one of the handful of theaters that will run Midnight Meat Train come August 1, you'll have to wait till it's out on DVD. Which, according to ShockTillYouDrop won't actually be that long a wait, as they speculate the release will come as early as October. (Just in time to scare the pants off snot-nosed trick-or-treaters!) According to the report, Lionsgate is only "planning a limited 100 theater run" which, frankly, is a number some wouldn't even wish on Uwe Boll. The paltry release fulfills a "contractual obligation" Lionsgate has "to give it some sort of theatrical run." Otherwise, it would have gone straight to DVD like any number of Mary-Kate and Ashley's pre-teen movies.
The "limited release" is just the latest in a long series of delays and troubles along the route for this Train. With a title that sounds like one part horror movie, one part "old-train-car-turned-into-a-gimmicky-steak-house," the movie is adapted from an early Clive Barker story, Books of Blood. It's been talked up as a potential movie since at least 2002, as part of an ambitious "Films of Blood" series. A distribution deal with Lionsgate was inked in 2005 when the film secured financial backing from Lakeshore Entertainment, which originally wanted to change the title to something less... fleshy. The title survives, but the original plans for wide theatrical release are deader than a fast food burger.
The film stars Bradley Cooper as a photographer obsessed with capturing images of grisly murders, and Brooke Shields as an art gallery owner who gives him his debut. No word on who stars as the meat.
