As revealed on Bloody Disgusting, the director of Witchblade will be no other than Michael Rymer, who has directed 20 episodes of Battlestar Galactica and also helmed Queen of the Damned. I have not seen Queen of the Damned, but I hear BSG is a nice little show. And I got really excited when I saw that he had directed a movie called Perfume, but then I realized it wasn't the movie I was thinking of.

The writer of the film will be Everett De Roche, who has a few horror films (Storm Warning, Visitors) and a lot of Australian TV series to his name. Promisingly, two of those series were sci-fi/superhero series with female lead characters, the Fathom-esque Ocean Girl and Supergirl-like Cybergirl. Unfortunately, both were pretty family-friendly fare, but I imagine he can combine those superhero-writing skills, his horror-movie skills and whatever skills he gained writing Matlock Police to make a scary, gritty superhero/crime drama.

Now all they need is an actress, preferably someone with the hard edge of the TV show's Yancy Butler, but not the drinking problem. My pick? Evangeline Lilly from Lost. I would see that movie twice.
