Adorkable geek hero Seth Green was on the morning radio show Opie and Anthony this morning promoting the hell out of his Robot Chicken: Star Wars special. That's cool and all, but that's not what really grabbed my attention, since I'm still bitter about having to sit through like an hour of random Star Wars/Indiana Jones talk in a really hot auditorium at the New York Comic Con earlier this year just to hear Green and his partner-in-crime talk about the aforementioned special. What got me all excited was that Green mentioned that he'd just recorded commentary for the 10th anniversary edition of teen flick Can't Hardly Wait. I'm so excited that I'm going to bust out my best orthopedic-looking shoes just for the occasion. (I've got to thanks to my husband for the tip, since he apparently has time to listen to the radio in the morning.)
For those who aren't familiar with this flick, go rent it, DVR it or Netflix it... whatever you kids are doing today. It has a totally cheesy plot about star-crossed lovers finally hooking up on the last day of high school at a massive all-night party, but there's something about it that's charming. Perhaps it's the fact that it involves an homage to The X-Files, has Jenna Elfman as a stripper angel and is utterly quotable ("I can't feel my legs... I have no legs!"). Or more likely it's because, like, every remotely famous teen actor from the late '90s seemed to find their way into it.
Not only did it star Jennifer Love Hewitt (who was hot on the Party of Five and Scream Queen trains), Ethan Embry (You totally know him. If you say you haven't seen Vegas Vacation, I don't believe you) and scene-stealers Seth Green and Lauren Ambrose (later of Six Feet Under fame), it also had appearances by a yearbook-obsessed Melissa Joan Hart, future Mr. Jennie Garth (Peter Facinelli) as JLH's sleazy ex, Erik Palladino (who did a stint on ER) as JLH's pervy cousin, Donald Faison (Scrubs) as the drummer for Loveburger, Breckin Meyer as a Loveburger member, Jerry O'Connell (Mr. Rebecca Romijn) as a disenchanted college student, Clea DuVall (who just had a brief stint on Heroes), Freddy Rodriguez (also of Six Feet Under but lately of Ugly Betty) as a dumb jock and the dishy District star Sean Patrick Thomas as another athlete. And there were cameos by the likes of Jaime Pressley, Selma Blair, Jason Segal, Eric Balfour and Sara Rue.
Somehow all of these factors combined to make a funny, rewatchable flick that has become a favorite among my friends (yeah, we're lame). Hopefully this new DVD set, along with commentary by Seth Green (and hopefully some others) will also have deleted scenes, because apparently there are some great ones of Amber Benson (Tara from Buffy) as a stoned girl, Jennifer Elise Cox (Jan Brady 2.0) as a crying drunk girl and Summer Phoenix (Mrs. Casey Affleck) as Amber's stoned friend. And maybe, just maybe, it will also include a Loveburger reunion concert. One can dream.
