Shia Ignores Own Advice, Is Arrested for DUI If Shia LaBoeuf crashes his car and no one is there to see it, will it make a sound? The answer to that is yes, and the sound is that of another young star hurting his career. Oh, and the video cameras (at the scene in time to catch his car upside-down) and media buzz, of course. We wouldn't want to forget that.

You likely already heard what happened: LaBoeuf, 22, crashed his car and was arrested for driving under the influence early yesterday (or late, late Saturday night). His publicist issued a statement today saying he's "recovering from extensive hand surgery" but will be back to work on Transformers 2 "within one month." A month sounds like a long time to suffer the consequences of a drunken joy ride, but then, the after-effects of the DUI might last even longer than that.

Don't get me wrong, I love Shia, but he's starting to piss me off. Because, see, he's always said in interviews that he doesn't party because he has to be careful with his image and all of that. For example: "You don't have to be in the public with everything. There's ways to have fun and still not jeopardize your situation." Or how about this one? "I always felt safer working. I never get in trouble." Right, because working this time helped him stay out of trouble.

And it isn't like this is the first time he's gotten in trouble since he turned 21. There was that whole Walgreens arrest in Chicago late last year, because he was drunk and wouldn't leave.

The Walgreens incident could have been a case of someone seeing a celebrity and sort of instigating something, or even blaming something on him that wasn't really his fault. That's been known to happen to celebrities from time to time, so I was still trying to give him the benefit of the doubt. But when you can see his overturned car, it's a little difficult to come to his defense on this one.

This is just not the path Shia should be headed down. He's always seemed like a good kid who's real and honest and open, unlike so much of Hollywood. I fell for him when he didn't think he was above being in the second Project Greenlight movie. Someone needs to take the kid aside and remind him what he himself has said: He can have fun at home without getting into a car and driving. If he doesn't stop with the partying, we could have another Lindsay Lohan (who, by the way, was apparently hit by a motorcycle yesterday) on our hands before long, and I think I can speak for the entire world when I say that no one wants another LiLo.
