As if there weren't already enough controversy surrounding the filming of Oliver Stone's George W. Bush biopic, some of the actors and film crew from W. went and got themselves arrested during a bar brawl in Shreveport, Louisiana last Saturday morning. There's an old saying in Hollywood: "The cast that fights together stays together." Okay, there's no such saying. But after this, maybe it will catch on.
According to the Chicago Sun-Times, actors Josh Brolin and Jeffrey Wright -- along with several of the crew -- got into it when locals voiced a "few profanity-laced barbs about Stone, his politics and the reported anti-Bush tone" of the movie, which then "led to harsh words from Brolin." A shoving match reportedly began at that point and then "degenerated into punches being thrown." Wright, who plays Colin Powell in the movie to Brolin's Bush, took a cue from his real-life counterpart and tried to talk everyone out of a messy fight. In the end, hotter heads apparently prevailed and the battle was on.
See, there are two things you should never talk about over drinks: politics and how much you'd like to do your drinking buddy's wife. Out of the two, politics is probably the worse possible subject to discuss when the beer is freely flowing. You'll get punched for the other one, but yammer on about politics and the whole bar is likely to get involved. Fists will fly, bottles will break, precious booze will be spilled. Who wants that?
At least Brolin's mugshot is a decent one, relative to those of some other celebs. Let any actors considering crossing paths with the law take note. A neatly cropped hairstyle goes a long way toward preventing things like the Nick Nolte Mugshot Tragedy of '02.
