The Last Beef on Earth
If you don't read a lot of comic books, and you're looking for a good one to check out, try Y: The Last Man from Vertigo. It's about Yorick, a young man who, for unknown reasons, is the only man on Earth who doesn't die a horrible death on the day that the "man" part of mankind is wiped out. Women take over the world, and the Y-chromosome-sporting Yorick has to stay out of their clutches, since half of them want to kill him and half want to use him in horribly awesome ways. Luckily, Shia "The Beef" LaBeouf knows exactly what that feels like.
If all goes according to plan, the 2010 film adaptation of Y may star none other than LaBeouf as Yorick, who travels across the country to solve the mystery of his survival and then crosses the Pacific to find his girlfriend, who was inconveniently abroad in Australia when the plague hit. And he does it all with his pet monkey Ampersand on his shoulder -- something LaBeouf should have no problem with, considering how fast he made friends with those monkeys in Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. (They had the same hair!)
Coincidentally, LaBeouf's director on Eagle Eye, D.J. Caruso, is up for the directing gig, and he sees the film as a trilogy -- an easy feat, considering the comic series is 60 issues long. (It's collected in 10 paperbacks.) And the script for Part 1 is being penned by Carl Ellsworth, who wrote LaBeouf's breakout hit Disturbia. Hmm -- I wonder if they can go for the hat-trick and get the guy who catered Transformers...
