BLOGS
I swear to God that this is my last blog post about vampires, werewolves or Witchblade for a while. I know, I talk about one or the other pretty much every day in the Moviefile, but they're all pretty awesome, and we just happen to be living at the right time to be fans of these things. And since I just happened to stumble across a couple of news items involving werewolves and vampires, I thought I'd clue you all in. If you're not interested, scroll down and read about Jennifer Lopez; if you are, then read on...if you dare!
- Sadly, I have no links to footage from the SDCC panel for The Wolf Man, starring Benicio Del Toro, Emily Blunt and Anthony Hopkins. But the official site has launched, and it has a few pictures, including two Wolfman pics we've seen plus one of the three actors in period garb. Why is Hopkins wearing Gary Oldman's outfit from Bram Stoker's Dracula? I have no idea.
- Also, EW has revealed some first-look pictures from Underworld: Rise of the Lycans, the prequel to Underworld and Underworld: Evolution. Because it takes place back when the vampire-werewolf feud first started, that means that Kate Beckinsale will unfortunately not be in it, much to the chagrin of SDCC panel attendees. But because the filmmakers know that nobody wants to stare at Bill Nighy all day (besides me, that is), they've thrown in another brunette in a form-fitting outfit, in this case Rhona Mitra (Doomsday, Nip/Tuck). And who knew body armor could be so tight? I bet wearing that stuff is pretty uncomfortable, especially around the sculpted abs.
- This last item is quite possibly the most amazing thing I've ever heard. Jeremy London, of Mallrats, Party of Five and 7th Heaven fame, is going to be in a werewolf movie called Wolvesbayne. While I hate the title, because it takes a perfectly cool word like "wolfsbane" and turns it into something that looks like Bloodrayne (the one vampire thing I will never see, or write a blog post about), the plot sounds amazing. London is a heroic werewolf who has to save the world from a cult of Nazi vampires. As cool as that sounds, the casting for the Nazis is even better. The vampire leader is -- get ready -- Mark Dacascos, from Brotherhood of the Wolf and The Crow: Stairway to Heaven, not to mention the Chairman on Iron Chef America! And he has a sword! And his vampire concubine? Yancy Butler, a.k.a. the machine from Mann & Machine, a.k.a. the star of TV's Witchblade! (Bet you were wondering when I would get to her!) The story may be weak, and the acting may be lackluster (at least on London's part), but with Dacascos and Butler sporting makeup by the same guys who are working on a big-budget flick like Watchmen, it should at least be fun to look at. And isn't that what vampires, werewolves and Witchblade are all about?
