I'm happy to report that this is not yet another celebrity-goes-to-rehab/gets-committed story -- just another bulletin from the casting couch. Will Ferrell has been attached to star in upcoming concept comedy 2-Face, a story about a racist man who, after a prank gone wrong, develops a split personality, with his new persona being that of a bleeding-heart liberal. [And not at all a story about a Gotham City District Attorney who is horribly burned by acid. - Zach]

The script was penned by Vince Gilligan, who recently wrote Hancock, as well as a number of the better episodes of The X-Files (which the newly-revived X-Phile in me feels the need to point out). That alone gives me hope that the film will be more in the tone of a serious social commentary than... most of Ferrell's other movies. Still, 2-Face sounds like a foray into Eddie Murphy country. Unless it takes a step toward the serious-and-actually-kind-of-good, Ferrell may be one fat suit away from my beginning to hate his guts.

With Step Brothers coming out next week, marking yet another stint in a goofy comedy, which is admittedly the actor's bread and butter, we can all hope that 2-Face follows more of a Stranger Than Fiction tract, with a return to the serious-but-funny, which I thought Ferrell pulled off brilliantly. After all, there are only so many more Talladega Nightses and Semi-Pros the man can pull off before teenaged boys stop thinking that those kind of two-by-four-to-the-head, fart-joke flicks are funny, right?
