Bruce Campbell, Chin Ready for Evil Dead 4

Indiana Jones: 66. Rambo: 62. John McClane: 53. Ash Williams: 50. When it comes to aging action figures, Ash is still in comparatively good shape, which is why actor Bruce Campbell is ready to strap the boomstick back on for Evil Dead 4. Despite the fact that it's been 16 years since the last Dead movie, Army of Darkness, came out, Campbell thinks that Ash still has the war against the deadites well in hand --- er, chainsaw.

Campbell told MTV that he thinks the Dead fans still want to see an Ash who's 16 years older... and, speaking as one of them, he's right. An Evil Dead without Ash would be like Campbell without his trademark chin, and considering how funny it was to see him play an elderly Elvis fighting a mummy in Bubba Ho-Tep, it seems like a middle-aged Ash fighting zombie demons would be just as entertaining. "It'd be a major liability," agreed Campbell. "You know, Ash runs out of breath or his back goes out and [stuff] like that. I mean, I just blew my hamstring fighting a stunt guy for Burn Notice." ...Um, can someone at Burn Notice give Bruce his own stunt guy, please? The man's a national treasure, and I think we can find someone with the same build -- if not a comparable chin -- to fill in for him on the dangerous parts, thank you.

Of course, on Burn Notice, Bruce is second fiddle to a slightly junior actor, the 40-year-old Jeffrey Donovan. Would Bruce consider a young, Shia LaBeouf-esque sidekick for ED4? Hells to the no. "I think the audience would be insulted if you did, because then you feel this obvious pressure to appeal," he told the Em-teev. "The beauty of the 'Evil Dead' movies is that you're only appealing to one demographic, and that's people who like horror movies. And you just have to please them. You don't have to appeal to the studio; you're already pleasing them by giving them part 4." You hear that, Hollywood? This is a man who knows what the public wants, and what they want... is more Bruce. At least, Bruce (and I) would hope they do -- I guess we'll find out when his action-biopic My Name is Bruce finally hits theatres in October. Fingers crossed!
