Punish Me! Wait -- Not Like That!

Hell hath no fury like comic book fans scorned. A recent post at LatinoReview.com caused all manner of angry response and controversy. Seems Lionsgate Films were continuing their current trend of pissing off gorehounds by forcing the director of the upcoming Punisher reboot to deliver a PG-13 rated cut. This after the folks at Comic Con got a decidedly R-rated preview of the upcoming film. Rumors flew like tennis balls at a Williams sisters match: director Lexi Alexander had been fired, the movie was horrible, the movie was butchered by the MPAA, etc. The one thing that appears to be true is that the film exists. After two previous misfires, I question why people are hoping this movie will give them what they finally want. Is the third time the charm?

The MPAA gets blamed for a lot of things -- I certainly am not enamored of their hypocrisy -- but after reading the responses under that LatinoReview.com post, it appears that the MPAA is simply catering to the desires of those who frequent the movies they rate. Violence good! Oochie coochie bad! Last week, I wrote about Kevin Smith successfully chopping up his Seth Rogen movie to get an R. Where were the protestors coming out on their blogs demanding to see the tits-'n'-ass Smith's "porno" movie was going to provide? Where was the outrage over cutting sex scenes? Yet, you threaten to remove some exploding heads and suddenly it's a travesty of justice?

I have a saying when things don't make sense to me: "I guess the world is sane, and I am the only insane person here." I'd rather see someone getting a hummer than getting crushed by one, so maybe something's wrong with me. Methinks I'm the last admitted pervert on the face of a puritanical Earth. Woe is me!!! [I'm with you, Odie! Perverts unite! - Zach] By the way, The PG-13 Punisher rumors were merely rumor. It's getting the rating it should have for its material: a hard R. For the fans, it's almost as good as the news that John Travolta won't be in this one.
