Won't You Take Me To (doo doo doo) Hobbiton?

The fellowship that led to Middle Earth success is officially coming back to Hobbiton. No, that other fellowship. As Variety reports, Peter Jackson, Fran Walsh and Philippa Boyens have signed on to collaborate on The Hobbit and its sequel with director and my favorite matador, Guillermo del Toro. The wonder-writers of the immensely successful (and totally awesome) The Lord of the Rings trilogy will finish telling the rest of J.R.R. Tolkien's story before del Toro takes the reigns on directing the two films back-to-back. (Filming starts next year.)

The Hobbit (as if you didn't know) tells the story of how the young Bilbo Baggins embarked on an adventure for lost treasure with the wizard Gandalf, and its sequel will deal with the 60 years in between that story and The Fellowship of the Ring. This article, meanwhile, will tell the story of how its author is super, super excited.

I knew going into this whole thing that with Jackson and Walsh producing, the films wouldn't get derailed too much. But with them coming on as writers, I feel like the tone and soul of the Rings prequels will now be consistent with the films that came before them. Or after them in this case, or however you want to look at it. In any event, I'm jazzed. There's now an Awesometown stop on the Middle Earth Express. Woo woo!
