$10 Buys You A Short Guy

If you've ever been to Hollywood, you know that prices can run pretty high on some things. A prime ZIP code in the Hills will set you back several million, easy. Chic clothes, regular spray tans, and the perfect veneers don't come cheap. Even dinner at a decent restaurant can cost a pretty penny. But it's possible to find a bargain, if you've got the right connections. For example, a mere ten bucks buys you a golden-skinned man with a perfectly ageless physique. On the down side, he's only a little over a foot high. On the plus side, he's highly portable! The man in question is none other than the famous Oscar statuette, and, unfortunately, only the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences can snag this deal. Or so says the Academy.

It's Got a Good Beat, But Can You Maim To It?

It's like someone opened up the Necronomicon Ex-Mortis, chanted a little something, and not one but two new possible Evil Dead projects popped out to possess unsuspecting audiences. Zach recently posted about the prospects of a fourth outing with Ash Williams and his demon-obliterating weapon of choice. Thanks to Screen Daily, today I bring you news of Evil Dead: The Musical. According to the article, producer Don Carmody and his partners are in negotiations to make a movie version of the Canadian and off-Broadway stage musical based on the Raimi films.

Does Iron Man Accept Money Orders?

Have you always wanted to walk the red carpet at a glitzy movie premiere? Have you dreamed of meeting movie stars? Is it your fondest wish to hang out on the set of a huge movie production and be treated like a VIP? Were you unfortunately born without the acting talent or at least the family connections that would make these things possible? Well, good news! Thanks to Stand Up To Cancer, if you're the winning bidder on its eBay auction, you not only get to walk the red carpet at the Iron Man sequel's premiere, you get to be in the movie! ...Oh, and benefit cancer research, too.

Watchmen Production Diary Now a Whole Hell of a Lot Sadder

Once a month, the official Watchmen movie website posts a new production diary, showing behind-the-scenes footage from the making of the film, showcasing the magnificent costumes, and the elaborate sets. It was presumed that they would continue until the film's debut, but now that the movie's release date is in question due to the ongoing lawsuit, they may have a few more videos to make if the release date gets pushed back to 2010. Perhaps that's another positive way to look at this situation -- if the movie gets delayed, we get more DVD extras!

Disney Needs to Stop... Almost Everything It's Doing

Disney Needs to Stop... Almost Everything It's Doing With the latest news (here, gleaned from an interview in Disney's in-house magazine) that Disney could possibly remake The Black Hole and/or 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea, I have just one question: How many more of these remakes are possible? I mean, how many original cheesy Disney movies still exist that haven't yet been remade? ...No, really, I need to know how prepared I need to be, because it's starting to feel like when the world ends, the only things that will survive the apocalypse will be cockroaches and old Disney movies.

... Or is This Will Smith's Next Box Office-Crushing Film?

After Marvel announced they would be doing a Captain America movie, a lot of casting rumors started to get bandied about, and Marvel themselves reportedly said that they wouldn't mind seeing Brad Pitt or Leonardo DiCaprio in the role. While those two certainly fit Cap's blonde, blue-eyed pedigree (and have the acting chops that make fanboys happy), a new rumor has just shot out of the mill that combines acting chops with a lesser-known take on Cap to form an explosive piece of news that everyone will soon be talking about. The role of Captain America, Sentinel of Liberty, was supposedly offered to Will Smith.

Will Smith Announces Next Box Office-Crushing Film

Hollywood already sees Will Smith as a god -- and why not? You have to go back to 2001 to find a movie he was in that made less than $100 million -- so he might as well play a pharaoh, right? The rumors that have been circling ever since Smith's production company took on writing The Last Pharaoh were made official today: Will Smith will star as the title character in his production company's The Last Pharaoh, an ancient Egyptian ruler.

Spidey 4 A Go

Spidey 4 A Go The rumors and speculation are over now that reliable source Nikki Finke has leaked the news that Sam Raimi and Tobey Maguire will both be back for a Spider-Man 4 (and probably 5, too). Sony was rumored to have been considering other actors to play the superhero, but apparently they woke up and realized how rare a franchise this successful and critically favored is. Apparently, Tobey wasn't sure he wanted to do it, but I'm guessing Sony made it worth his while.

Tommy Lee Owed

Tommy Lee Owed

Tommy Lee Jones is suing Paramount for money (specifically, $10 million) he wasn't paid on the back-end of No Country For Old Men, and while I usually don't have a lot of sympathy for actors, what with all their money and perks and luxury, I have even less for movie studios. Plus, it sounds like Paramount is trying to get out of giving Jones the kind of money they used to lure him into being in the film.

Bangkok Dangerous Barely Wins Terrible Weekend

So, Bangkok Dangerous finally knocked Tropic Thunder out of its spot at the top of the weekend box office, but it was nothing to be proud of. Bangkok led all movies with $7.8 million at the box office on the slowest box office weekend in seven years.
