BLOGS
These days, you can't fire up the Internet without hearing more casting news about Quentin Tarantino's Inglorious Bastards. Today is no exception, as we bring you not one, not two, but three new bastards and one bastardette who have joined the cast. German actors Christoph Waltz and Til Schweiger, American comedian Paul Rust and National Treasure star Diane Kruger are the latest additions, according to reports in Variety and The Hollywood Reporter. I'm pretty sure roughly one-third of the globe's population are playing roles in this movie, or have at least been considered for a role. In fact, just a few weeks ago, Tarantino even tried to tap me for a part.
The conversation went a little something like this:
QT: So, Tippi, would you like to be one of my numerous and inglorious bastards?
TB: I could probably be inglorious, but I'm not sure about the bastard part.
QT: Yeah, yeah, that's a problem. Do you think you could be Jewish?
TB: Well, once while sharing a cab in New York, two little old ladies thought I was.
QT: Good! Yeah, that's authentic!
TB: But then the next person I shared a cab with thought I was a mongoose named Chip, so perceptions varied widely. Still want me in the movie?
QT: Uhh, I'll have to get back to you. I think I'm gonna go see if Mike Myers wants to be in the movie instead.
But back to reality now. According to the articles, Kruger will be playing German actress Bridget Von Hammersmark, a role that had been linked to Nastassja Kinski, while Schweiger joins the cast as one of Brad Pitt's Nazi hunters. [I'm betting Rust is one, too. - Zach] Waltz will be playing the film's main bad guy, Col. Hans Landa. Production begins next month -- without Simon Pegg, sadly -- which is still plenty of time to fill a few more bastardly roles.
