Being that this is a short work week, you'd think it would take more than hearing that Nicolas Cage is in talks with Marvel Studios to make a sequel to Ghost Rider to ruin my day. You'd think wrong. The trailer for the first movie was so bad that it alone soured me on Nicolas Cage, probably forever. And now they want to make another one? In a discussion with Dark Horizons, Cage said that he'd met with the studio three months ago and they discussed changing the setting completely. "The general idea was to take the character to Europe where he will work with the Catholic Church, deal with supernatural stuff on the continent and figure out a 'connection working with different religious figures.' The film's main antagonist has yet to be decided." Um, how about me?
In what I'm sure will be another thing you can file under Bad Ideas, is Cage's upcoming project Kick-Ass, which is an adaptation of a graphic novel that is about to begin shooting. Cage's eloquent description of the film: "I play a guy named Damon and I'm the father of Mindy, who is Hit Girl and I'm Big Daddy and I'm training my daughter to become a superhero." Helpful. [The main character is a normal teenager who decides he wants to become a costumed hero like in the comic books, with painfully awesome consequences. The book's not bad, but the inclusion of Nicolas Cage is never a good sign. - Zach]
All this Nic Cage press is swirling to promote the remake of Bangkok Dangerous, which hits theaters tomorrow -- the awesome original draft of which I read several years ago. Being that Cage got on board, that great script probably got chained to a motorcycle and set on fire Ghost Rider-style, which pretty much describes Cage's last several years worth of projects and also my week. Thanks, dude.
