Joe producer and frequent geek-movie collaborator Lorenzo di Bonaventura revealed that he "found some of the [mask] aspects a little KKK, so we tried to steer away from that image. We thought that might be a little much." A bit much? Look, I'm fine if they want to go the shiny helmet route (although I'm not holding out hope) but how is it "a bit much" to make the head of an international terrorist organization look like... a member of a terrorist organization? Are they worried that they'll offend black audiences? Nearly half of the Joe team is black -- if black audiences aren't already planning on coming to see the movie, the promise that Marlon Wayans might shoot a Klansman could actually convince some people. Besides, as far as I know, Klansman hoods are pointed at the top, and only come in red or white. I've never seen a blue Klansman. Are there Democrats in the Klan?

Di Bonaventura also revealed that actor Joseph Gordon-Levitt -- who's playing Cobra Commander, by the way -- has developed his own peculiar speaking style, which is "more menacing" than the original. And although he says that he liked how, in The Dark Knight, the Joker kept giving a different origin tale, he promises that we'll see the backstory of Cobra Commander in this film. I for one, can't wait. Explaining how the 27-year-old Gordon-Levitt became the head of an international terrorist organization should make for some mighty fine cinema.
