Disturbia Developments & Thor Theories

So apparently, Alfred Hitchcock's Rear Window, which has inspired countless knockoff films, was actually based on a short story from 1942. And while most of those knockoffs flew under the radar, apparently 2007's Disturbia, with Shia LaBeouf in an ankle bracelet standing in for Jimmy Stewart in a wheelchair, has not, and the company that represents the deceased author's estate has filed a lawsuit against Dreamworks, according to Reuters. Apparently, they were waiting for Disturbia to make it to Blu-ray? And for Blu-ray to be declared the next generation of media player? And for all of the Disturbia HD-DVDs to go on closeout?

While Disturbia executive producer Steven Spielberg scrambles to figure out why the hell he's getting sued over a movie he did two years ago, Disturbia director David Caruso is picking his next project. After working with Shia LaBeouf twice, on that movie we keep saying the name of and this month's Eagle Eye, Caruso wants to work with someone bigger and blonder. Namely, Thor, the Norse god of thunder. In an interview with IESB, Caruso said he'd love to direct a Thor movie, and he's apparently had talks with Marvel about the job, although he's torn between setting it in the modern day and setting it in Asgard of the past, showing how Thor grew up with his adopted brother Loki under his monocular dad Odin.

Considering that most of Marvel's Thor adventures over the years have taken place on Earth, with Thor changing back and forth between himself and human host Dr. Donald Blake (or paramedic Jake Olson), I'd imagine Marvel might like to see a modern-day story. But to do a Thor movie without a trip to Asgard -- even if it's as the credits are rolling -- would be a tragedy. That said, I don't want to see too much young Thor and young Loki running around. Do a flashback or two, showing Odin killing Loki's frost-giant parents and introducing him to Thor, but keep the rest modern-day. As much as I hate to say it, look to Michael Bay's Transformers for the template. We see Thor and the gods through a mortal's eyes, as massive engines of destruction... and, you know, maybe Thor gets cursed to share the guy's body at some point. Is that weird? It's weird, isn't it?
