Comic book movie casting news changes faster than Clark Kent in a phone booth. Just a few days ago, Michael Caine (better known as Alfred to some, and as Alfie to others) was telling MTV News that he'd heard it from a Warner Bros. executive that the studio wanted Johnny Depp as the Riddler and Philip Seymour Hoffman as the Penguin. It seemed all but confirmed that Hoffman would waddle onto the big screen as the Bat's next nemesis. When asked about it the next day, though, Hoffman himself denied the long-standing rumor, saying: "No one has talked to me about it, ever -- never." He added that he's "such a fan of those [comic book] movies," but explained that he'd rather watch them than be in them.

Casting rumors have likewise been swirling ever since Marvel announced it would be making a Captain America movie. Will Smith, Leonardo DiCaprio and Brad Pitt have all been linked with the role to varying degrees. So has Matthew McConaughey. Just in case last May's denial of the McConaughey rumor wasn't enough to reassure you that the big screen's Captain America wouldn't be a laid-back, bongo-pounding, whiffy lotion-making kind of surfer dude, McConaughey himself told MTV News that it was all news to him. Given his druthers, the actor says he'd much rather play the Hulk.

Looks like McConaughey has good timing, because Edward Norton told MTV News just hours earlier that he doesn't know what's up with the next Hulk pic. According to the report, "Norton said he's also been kept in the dark regarding any plans for him, in his role as Hulk's alter-ego Bruce Banner, to appear in Marvel's big team-up project, The Avengers." Could they be looking for a new Banner? Perhaps a more laid-back version? Dude, you wouldn't like him when he's angry.
