Megan Fox Approached for Witchblade, but Signed for Fathom?

Well, it's been a while since I talked about the Witchblade movie, so I thought I'd jump back in with a crazy Witchblade sandwich. No, not the kind with Witchblade in the middle (although those are tasty), but the kind with Witchblade as one piece of bread and her aquatic, equally scantily-clad comic-book counterpart Fathom as the other piece of bread. In the middle? Megan Fox. Now, that sounds like a delicious sandwich. Anyway, Megan Fox has been linked to both roles in two months, and I just thought I'd let you know so all of the Megan Fox fans can start picturing her in skimpy outfits. ...Because I highly doubt anyone was doing that already.

IESB knows a guy, who knows a girl, who knows an insider at 20th Century Fox who says that Megan Fox has signed on to play Fathom, even though it's now under the studio's genre arm, Fox Atomic (28 Weeks Later, The Rocker). It seems like a step backwards for the increasingly famous Fox, because Fox Atomic would appear to be the home of lower-budget films, but maybe there's enough money being thrown at this thing that it can really be a star vehicle for her. And maybe it's a role she simply wants to play, as well as being a role we'd all certainly like to see her play.

The funny thing is, Megan Fox is supposedly a big Witchblade fan. On the Top Cow Publishing message boards, a Top Cow employee reveals that Fox swung by the booth at the San Diego Comic-Con. When another employee approached her, handed her a couple of Witchblade books and told her she'd be perfect for the role, she actually said she'd been reading Witchblade since she was a kid. First of all, that's awesome. Second, that's really scary. Witchblade was created in 1995, when I was 18, so I only know it as part of my adult life. But Megan Fox was born in 1986, which means that she was only 9 when it came out -- and that she never saw the first Back to the Future movie in theatres. Man, I feel old.

Okay, so the only person who "approached" Fox about Witchblade was the comic book publisher, but it's still an interesting glimpse into Megan Fox's formative years, and maybe an explanation of why she'd want to play a character in a stainless steel bikini. Whichever one she ends up playing, Thank you, Witchblade creator Marc Silvestri. From the bottom of my heart, thank you.
