Tommy Lee Owed

Tommy Lee Owed

Tommy Lee Jones is suing Paramount for money (specifically, $10 million) he wasn't paid on the back-end of No Country For Old Men, and while I usually don't have a lot of sympathy for actors, what with all their money and perks and luxury, I have even less for movie studios. Plus, it sounds like Paramount is trying to get out of giving Jones the kind of money they used to lure him into being in the film.

According to Jones' lawsuit, he negotiated to receive the same type of deal given to the Coen Bros. and producer Scott Rudin, and agreed -- in exchange -- to a lower up-front fee. Then, after the movie went on to win awards and make all kinds of money at the box office, Jones says Paramount told him they made two mistakes in the contract, both of which apparently would have given him more money. In other words: They fixed their mistakes so he won't get as much. Of course, they didn't let him know of the "mistakes" until after he had acted in and promoted the movie, even though he says they told him they realized the mistakes before he signed the contract.

In other words: I agree with this guy: It sounds like Tommy Lee was right to bring the suit. And I'm sure Paramount's MasterCard commercial is already being made:

No Country for Old Men's box office take: $160 million

Back-end money owed to star Tommy Lee Jones, according to his lawsuit: $10 million

Getting a big star in your movie with a lush contract and then saying it was a mistake AFTER he's done all of his work: Priceless.
