If you hadn't already gleaned it, the story for Battle: Los Angeles (not to be confused wiht Rage AGainst the Machine's The Battle of Los Angeles) follows one Marine platoon fighting a war against an alien invasion on the streets of L.A. Hey, isn't that the job of the INS? (Rim shot!) Described as Black Hawk Down meets Independence Day, Liebesman, who's past projects include The Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Beginning and Darkness Falls, had enough passion and vision (and I'm guessing, a hearty desire to shake off the horror director megaphone) to win him the job. That kind of fortitude should pay off in the long run, as his future projects just gained a bit more status and much bigger budgets.

As for the project itself, Battle: Los Angeles, already the title of my morning commute, was a spec script written by Chris Bertolini (The General's Daughter) and will be produced by I Am Legend's Neal Moritz, although it has not yet been cast. Maybe some low-budget actors out there should take a page from the director's book and preemptively film some scenes in full costume and make-up. It looks like pluck like that actually works.
