Ridley Scott Returns to Sci-Fi with Forever War

Director Ridley Scott's not waiting to see how his most recent film, Body of Lies, does to announce his next project. Well, technically, his next project, Nottingham, has been announced and in the works for awhile now. But now he's announced what he'll be working on after that: The Forever War, based on the novel of the same name.

Scott's been saying he'll do another sci-fi film for a while now, and apparently The Forever War was supposed to be the movie Scott made right after his two classic sci-fi films, Blade Runner and Alien, but it got delayed 25 years or so. Scott told Variety not to worry, though: The book's only gotten more timely in those 25 years. You might wonder if Scott still has it in him as he nears 71 to make the kind of cutting-edge sci-fi that Blade Runner and Alien were back in their day. And that's actually a good question. But he still seems to be able to make things that are timely, political, and a little bit revolutionary (see Crowe vs. Crowe in Nottingham), so he should be able to handle it.

That leaves only one big question, then, about The Forever War: Will Russell Crowe star? Because a Ridley Scott movie without Russell Crowe is like... well, something that used to exist but doesn't anymore. Like the 8-track tape. Or dinosaurs.
