Armstrong is an interesting choice for a picture, which will tell the story of the musician's impoverished early years in New Orleans and primarily chronicle his career as a trumpet virtuoso and one of the pioneering improvisational jazz singers. It's the first Armstrong project to be authorized by the late musician's estate, and will also have the benefit of being executive produced by Oscar Cohen, who began working for the musician in the late 40's as his road manager, and is currently the executive of the Armstrong estate and the Louis Armstrong Educational Foundation. Not too shabby for the production team, as that's what you might call an "All Access Pass."

I may have been a doubter that Whitaker could pull off Armstrong's signature gravely voice if Jamie Foxx hadn't made a believer out of me with his spot-on vocals of equally uniquely-voiced Ray Charles in Ray. As for Whitaker himself, who I'm sure is hoping Foxx's voice coach is still available, he will no doubt be getting his second Oscar nod for the role, seeing as how the Academy seems to have a perpetual bee in its bonnet for the Musical Biopic.
