Let's get that first one out of the way: Though it's sadly not the actual Wyld Stallyns of Excellent Adventure fame, Warner Bros. is describing its upcoming Control-Alt-Delete as Bill and Ted meets The Matrix. No further details are provided, but invoking two Keanu Reeves movies in the same breath has to mean... something. The same production team under the Unique Features banner is also in the process of developing Isaac Asimov's Foundation for the big screen, so sci-fi seems to be big in the future. Next up is the live-action Robotech movie that's been brewing for a while. Late last spring, Lawrence Kasdan hopped on board the robo-train to pen a script, having previously written screenplays for the first Indiana Jones movie, and both The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi. Tobey "Spidey" Maguire was set to produce and possibly play one of the lead roles. Then yesterday came news that although Kasdan did write a previous draft, Alfred Gough and Miles Millar have now been tapped for screenwriting duties. Probably best known as the showrunners for TV's Smallville, the two also previous worked together on Spiderman 2. Warner Bros. is "intent on keeping the project moving forward," but with Maguire's slate so full, will his role be limited to that of producer?

An ol' scifi standy -- the alien invasion movie -- is also in the works. This one is Battle: Los Angeles and Aaron Eckhart is now attached to star. Having recently played Harvey Dent/Two-Face in The Dark Knight, Eckhart would be playing the leader of a military platoon battling the aforementioned alien invasion. Just show those UFOs how much it costs to park their spaceships in L.A. and they'll soon be on their way.

Finally, there's news that Dark Horse Indie is bringing "an SF thriller with comedic elements" to the big screen. Titled War Monkeys, the live-action pic features two Abbott-and-Costello types who get into a tangle with a literal army of monkeys. One of the producers apparently called up director Kevin Munroe with a hot tip on a guy who could train some rhesus monkeys to wield guns. They'll be prop guns, sure, but you know where this is leading, right? In some 20 or 30 years, there'll be a documentary about the day that a band of monkeys realized they could battle their human captors. That's the unique ability of science fiction: To show us the future. Or to warn us of it.
