Twilight's Edward Action Figure Wants to Take Things Slowly
So you've just seen Twilight, and you are now officially addicted to Robert Pattinson. You need him like a flower needs sunlight, or like a teenage girl needs a dangerous-yet-non-threatening vampire boyfriend. You've bought the T-shirt, the calendar, everything you can get your hands on, but now you need a tiny, three-dimensional totem of Edward to worship and adore. You need a doll, or, better yet, an action figure. Like, right now. Well, Edward thinks you should wait, and if you really love him, you will.
Today, the first 7-inch action figure of Edward from the movie went on sale, and it looks awesome (as do all of NECA's Harry Potter action figures). But just like Bella waited for marriage before she let Edward jump her bones, you're going to need to wait until April to get a little Edward of your own, because that's when he'll be ready. Sadly, only guaranteed blockbuster movies like Dark Knight and High School Musical 3 get simultaneous toy line releases in the stores nowadays. More adult-targeted movies -- and low-budget gambles like Twilight -- tend to get them well after the fact, so there's still time to drop everything at the last minute if the movie tanks.
NECA isn't the only one getting in the game, though. Tonner, Inc. -- which makes high-end, 16- to 20-inch dolls with real cloth outfits and rooted hair -- will release their own Edward and Bella in the first quarter of 2009. NECA hasn't said if they'll make anyone beyond Edward, but then they're often known for only making the coolest-looking character from a given property. However, Robert Tonner says that if Bella and Edward do well, James and Victoria would be next, and he hopes to eventually make everybody. That should be good news for Twi-hards, new and old. And before you ask: yes, on Tonner's dolls, the clothes are removable.
