If you were looking forward to Darren Aronofsky's Robocop remake, you might be looking for a long time. While promoting The Wrestler on the Howard Stern show, Aronofsky reportedly said he was still working on the script about Detroit's finest cyborg, but that he's "not sure" if the project would still be going ahead. The now in-demand director has a lot on his plate, going from the wrestling mat to the boxing ring in his upcoming The Fighter. Then there's that diluvian epic he wants to make about Noah's ark, a project he's calling "huge." Considering the amount of time and energy Aronofsky usually spends on a project, it's not hard to see why an '80s remake might draw the short straw when it comes to priorities. And Robocop's not the only robocharacter in an upcoming movie to face the chopping block, either.

Majel Barrett, widow of Star Trek creator Gene Roddenberry, died yesterday of leukemia in her Bel Air, California home. She was 76. She had the distinction of acting in every incarnation of the iconic science fiction franchise. She started out in the Trek universe as Captain Pike's second-in-command in the first pilot for the original series. She would go on to play Christine Chapel, a nurse in the series and later a doctor in the first and fourth Trek movies.

Stephen Norrington has signed on to write and direct a "reinvention" of the James O'Barr comic, The Crow. Most remember the 1994 movie starring Brandon Lee as the resurrected dark hero who avenges his and his fiancee's murders. (Tragically, Lee was killed during filming.) Others are still trying to forget the three sequels that plagued their screens like the cinematic equivalent of bird flu. What would possess Norrington to tackle a movie that needs a reimagining like a crow needs a second cloaca? He says he wants to make the story "realistic, hard-edged and mysterious, almost documentary-style." This will differ, he says, from the first movie's stylized, gothic tone.

Way back in July, Comic-Con attendees got a taste of the long-rumored Tron sequel in the form of teaser footage showing Jeff Bridges as once-heroic Kevin Flynn, seemingly gone bad. There were special effects, even, and a Light Cycle chase! It seemed like things were well underway and on target for that 2010 release date. Now comes news that they've only just begun hiring the actors.

Lee Falk's comic strip about a seemingly immortal jungle hero and foe of pirates got an entertaining serial in the 1940s. In 1996, Billy Zane put on a purple body suit for his turn as Kit "The Phantom" Walker. (Did that movie really only come out in 1996? Doesn't it seem like it came out in like 1988 or something?) Now the story is getting a reboot from scriptwriter Tim Boyle, whose credits up till now include movies you've likely never seen. Do The Plex and Fink! ring a bell for you? No? Yeah, same here. An Australian production company has secured the rights for Falk's tale, and expects the budget to be $87 million. Ironically, they will have to become pirates to get the money.

Either way, there's more Terminator on the way, in the form of a fifth movie. That's right, the movie after next May's Terminator: Salvation has already been greenlit.

This is the film fan's favorite time of year, right? And not just because they have hopes of their loved ones buying them all of the cool movies they asked Santa for this year, but also because it's awards season. This means that almost every day, there will be news about nominations, winners, and more -- some obscure, some mainstream. Here are today's (and this weekend's) awards tidbits.
