After a lot of speculation about whether there would be a fourth Spider-Man movie -- or if there even should be a fourth, after the dancestravaganza that was the last one -- all of the contracts have finally been signed and Sam Raimi and Tobey Maguire are returning as director and star. Hooray, we guess. (Seriously, no dancing this time, guys.) As with any superhero movie, confirmation of the film has kicked off endless discussions of what new villains should fight Spidey. Theories abound, with everyone jumping on every little word out of Raimi's mouth, but nothing is set in stone yet. Still, it's never too early to take stock of our options...
With rare exceptions (like Control and, oh, I don't know, the masterpiece that is Selena), biopics are usually just straightforward, throwaway, lie-filled award bait. That's all fine and harmless, but it still doesn't change the fact that almost every single biopic is exactly the same, and that the marketing for each of them doesn't even remotely try to disguise this. Which is weird, because it's not like the moviegoing public as a whole is like, devoted to the "humble beginnings/wows a label guy on a chance meeting/gets famous/fame ruins his life/is redeemed at the end" formula or anything. Certainly not in the way they are with romantic comedy and horror conventions, anyway. But hey, I'm not a focus group runner, so I can't be sure.
Vanessa Hudgens (who apparently dropped the Anne to appear as a more credible actress or something) is rumored to be in talks for the role of Leah in the Twilight series. Now it's not that I don't think she's a lovely girl, who is very well suited to playing a fresh-faced pop tartlet in whatever Disney movie that may come her way, but I just don't think that this is the direction she should be going in. Rather, I don't think this is the direction that New Moon (the next Twilight film) should be going in. I thought the whole point of axing the director was to make the next film suck less. Maybe I misunderstood. If that's the case, fill it up with pretty teens who are totally miscast (Nikki Reed, I'm looking in your general direction) and use terrible special effects to make Robert Pattinson look sparkly/sweaty. See if I care. See if I go see that movie. I won't be fooled again. (OK, I probably will go see it, but I'll claim it is for research for work). Anyway, here are the reasons I think that Vanessa Hudgens should not be in this movie, and the Twilight PTB should keep on looking for another girl to play the unlucky-in-love lycanthrope.
The Golden Globes were a roller coaster of emotion, what with the drinking and the camaraderie and the sadness and the excitement... and that was just around the TWOP offices! The awards themselves were also a mixed bag, which is why we created a gallery of the Best and Worst Golden Globes Moments -- see which moments made us laugh, made us cry, and made us throw things at the screen. Or, if you want to read a play-by-play of the entire event, check out our liveblog! And to see which flicks we thought were overlooked, check out our gallery of Snubbed Movies!
Although Gran Torino got shut out at the Golden Globes last night, with its only nomination (for Best Original Song) going to Bruce Springsteen's song for The Wrestler, director/star Clint Eastwood is probably feeling pretty good about himself right now. Torino finally opened wide this weekend, adding over 2,700 theatres, and took the number-one spot with $29M, beating out all of the new releases thanks to good reviews, awards recognition and the fact that Clint seems to be playing an elderly "Dirty" Harry Callahan.
Wanna know who won the awards? We'll reveal them as we go along. Keep up below.

It's a brave new world for Movies Without Pity!
In an effort to make the various MWOP blogs as easy-to-keep-track-of as possible, "DVDS Unwrapped" and "Reviews of Movies We Haven't Seen" are both being folded into the Moviefile, making it your one-stop-shopping destination for all things motion-picturesque! New postings will be filed under those category names, so you can find what you're looking for, but all of the older DVD reviews and unseen movie reviews will be archived in their old blogs. So if you ever want to look up that old DVD review of The Dark Knight, or our pre-emptive review of Beverly Hills Chihuahua, here's where to go:

Transformers 2: The Revenge of Michael Bay?
Today, director Michael Bay released on his blog a teaser poster for Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen, featuring the titular "fallen" Transformer who will be the sequel's main bad guy. And since I saw it, I've spent the last seven hours vacillating back and forth between excitement and skepticism. So why am I so torn about the new movie coming out this summer? Because for everything that I love about Transformers, there's something that I hate about Bay's vision of them, and I'm pretty sure I'm going to be as disappointed by this one as I was by the first. Bear with me while I pull a High Fidelity and make a list of pros and cons for why I have to see (or really shouldn't see) this movie.
Wolverine: X-Man on Fire
In comics and on the screen, Wolverine has been the most popular X-Man for years. In fact, it could be argued that the first two X-Men movies were de facto Wolverine films. But now he's making it official, with the first movie to actually put his name on the marquee, X-Men Origins: Wolverine. Since his origin is one of the most mysterious (read: sexy) things about him, all signs point to this being a pretty amazing movie. But it's hard to tell from just the trailer, unless you're an über-nerd with a stack of Wolverine comics in your closet. Luckily, nerd-scholars Omar G. and Pablo G. are here to explain everything to us in their latest installment of "Trailers Without Pity"! See the video after the jump.
Anne Hathaway looked like she was on an upward trend with her roles in Brokeback Mountain, The Devil Wears Prada and her Critic's Choice Award-winning performance in Rachel Getting Married. With a little luck, her slapsticky Princess Diary and Ella Enchanted days could have been behind her. So why did she choose to do Bride Wars, an insulting film on several levels, with the queen of rom-coms, Kate Hudson? We got our hands on what is supposedly her personal scrapbook of the movie, in which she explains her decision to take the role, why she regrets it now, and what she really thinks about her co-star, and it's pretty scandalous.
