5 Reasons Vanessa Hudgens Should Absolutely Not Be Cast in the Twilight Sequel

Vanessa Hudgens (who apparently dropped the Anne to appear as a more credible actress or something) is rumored to be in talks for the role of Leah in the Twilight series. Now it's not that I don't think she's a lovely girl, who is very well suited to playing a fresh-faced pop tartlet in whatever Disney movie that may come her way, but I just don't think that this is the direction she should be going in. Rather, I don't think this is the direction that New Moon (the next Twilight film) should be going in. I thought the whole point of axing the director was to make the next film suck less. Maybe I misunderstood. If that's the case, fill it up with pretty teens who are totally miscast (Nikki Reed, I'm looking in your general direction) and use terrible special effects to make Robert Pattinson look sparkly/sweaty. See if I care. See if I go see that movie. I won't be fooled again. (OK, I probably will go see it, but I'll claim it is for research for work). Anyway, here are the reasons I think that Vanessa Hudgens should not be in this movie, and the Twilight PTB should keep on looking for another girl to play the unlucky-in-love lycanthrope.

1. The Internet Will Explode
Quite simply, if all the High School Musical fans start following the Twilight saga as intently as they do HSM, there isn't going to be enough bandwidth in the world to hold them all.

2. She's Supposed to be A Werewolf/Shape Shifter!!!
There was all this talk about sweet-faced Taylor Lautner not being able to be tough and big enough to fully embody the character of Jacob, and now they might cast Hudgens? Does this make any sense to anyone? Hudgens is one of the teeny tiniest most dainty little girly girls on the planet. While Leah isn't supposed to be as big as the guys, she does have to maintain a certain bit of muscle to take on the role. She'd need to be a badass chick, which I certainly cannot see Hudgens doing. She's too smiley, even when she's trying to pout.

3. Leah's Supposed To Be Heartbroken
Not saying that Hudgens doesn't have range (which she might, but we've yet to really see it) but this heart-broken character is in theory so upset that a guy dumped her for anothe girl that she's kind of a bitch. One would imagine that you'd have to have some real relationship in your life to know that pain. Hudgens is living in the candy colored Zac Efron "dating" world right now, so doesn't seem like she's got a hell of a lot of experiences to draw on.

4. Did They Learn Nothing About Casting Thirteen People?
Aside from High School Musical, Hudgens's only other big screen role (we're purposefully ignoring Thunderbirds for her sake and ours) was in Thirteen. Twilight is already saddled with the horrible Nikki Reed, who is not the most beautiful woman in the world and not nearly right to play Rosalie. They just fired Twilight writer/director Catherine Hardwicke because she wasn't a good fit. Let's not make the same mistake again, OK?

5. The Inevitable Vanessa Hudgens Pop Track Saddled on to the Soundtrack
Since there's no singing in this movie, and Hudgens is a burgeoning pop star, it is not a huge leap to imagine that she'll go all Beyonce and ask to have a song included on the soundtrack... just because. Considering the normal Twilight fare is all angsty rock like Paramore and Muse, I can't imagine Hudgens's style being a good fit. Unless she does a total remake of her image between now and then.

On the plus side, she's got good hair. And that's a good thing for a werewolf to have. And there's a small part of her heritage that is Native American. So those are some things, though they don't personally change my mind.

So fellow Twilight fans... what do you think? Do you think she'll make a convincing Quileute pack member? Does this make you more inclined to see the next movie, or do you think that if they cast her it is just another nail in the coffin of this franchise? Sound off below.

While I don't think Hudgens would be the perfect fit for this character, I have a difficult time thinking of another actress who would. I suppose they would have to go with someone lesser known, which wouldn't be so bad. It's not like this movie will hurting in the publicity department.

ITA about Nikki Reed. Rosalie is supposed to be unbelievably beautiful, the most beautiful woman you've ever seen. And I'm afraid that Nikki Reed is not that. The actresses playing Esme and Alice, hell, even K-Stew, are all better looking than she is. Not to mention I don't remember Rosalie being described in the books as vaguely Latina.

Okay, my mistake. I did a quick wiki check and I suppose Reed is in fact of Jewish and Italian/Cherokee descent. My apologies if my "Latina" comment came off as offensive. Either way, Rosalie was a debutante from Rochester in the 20s-30s. I'm picturing more of a Grace Kelly look for that type.

No. Just no. That is wrong on so many levels. Keep that girl AWAY from Twilight! Ugh. Oh, and I totally agree on Nikki Reed too. What's up with THAT?

Honestly between Rob Patterson breathing heavily every three words to maintain his "American" accent and Peter Pan fairy glitter, Kristin Stewart snarking every line, and Reed's amazingly huge thighs- who will notice if Leah is not up to par? Maybe she is secretly perfect for the movie. She does have great hair.

I thought the director declined to work on the next movie. I believe I read in EW that the next called for even more special effects but the budget was too limited.

I believe that reason Hardwicke left (so she said) was the time frame. She wants a certain amount of time to develop her movies (longer than a few months) and the studio wanted to get it out quickly to capitlize on the craze.

Eh...I don't really have a problem per se with Hudgens playing Leah, except that isn't Leah supposed to be in her mid-20s? How old is Vanessa? I do totally agree with point #1 about the internet exploding into a million pieces if this casting choice is made however.

Give her the role, don't give her the role, I couldn't possibly force myself to care. The Twilight movie was so wretched, they could put Dustin Hoffman in a skirt and cast him as Leah and I don't think it would make anything worse. If I go to see New Moon, it will be for the unintentional comedy alone.

Anyone else think that, with some brown contacts, Jessica Szohr could be a great Leah? She's got the pouty, jilted act down on "Gossip Girl".

There is just no way she, I don't care how great I think Rob and Kristin are-because Rob won't even been in this movie for more that five minutes. I cannot "get over" Hudgens the way I "forgave" them for casting Nikki. ITA that Rosalie was supposed to be insanely beautiful, and while Nikki is attractive, she's not the stunning beauty that Rosalie is supposed to be. As for Hudgens, I just don't get that "fierce" quality that Leah has. And really, I would puke if they write Leah as a bigger character for this movie than she was in the book just because of Hudgens. The books were fine, yes Twilight the movie had it's issues, but most of that was special effects nonsense. I actually found some of the storyline deviation from the novel to be a good movie for keeping with the pace of a movie, but a Leah heavy rewrite of the story would just kill me.

No. I loved Leah in the books, and I don't want Vanessa to ruin her for me. She has never shown that she is able to be a bitch, and when she had to act "jilted" in HSM, she just pouted a lot. I cannot see her as Leah. At all. Also, if they were going to recast Jacob because Taylor looked too young, how are they supposed to cast Vanessa as someone who is supposed to look in her mid-twenties? No, I refuse to accept this as truth.

Ya know, if they hadn't already botched up Rosalie, I could see Nikki Reed making a good Leah. She's got the bitchitude down and she looks strong enough to be convincing, at least physically. I agree that she's not an ideal Rosalie, but I think I could have liked her as Leah.

@ Ali: Dustin Hoffman in a skirt is something I'd actually pay to see.

Why are we arguing over this? Vanessa Hudgens has all the substance as an actor of cotton-candy fluff - which, incidentally, is the substance of the entire Twilight series. Perfect match, in my eyes.

Yipes, the casting was such a mess that I really don't even care. IMHO, the whole movie needs to be recast. Honestly, how much worse could Vanessa Hudgens be? Sure, her acting range is pretty much "pouty" and "cutesy", but compared to some of the cast, that's amazing.

I honestly didn't care too much about Rosalie one way or the other (though I see everyone's points), but you are SO right -- Nikki Reed would have been PERFECT (or at least much much better) for Leah, now that you mention it. Ah, hindsight....

Hudgens would be AWFUL for the part of Leah!!! Leah is supposed to be badass, bitchy, annoying, and totally heart-broken and miserable. Hudgens wouldn't be able to embrace so much emotion. I thought Nikki Reed was okay... but they could have done better.

Does anyone remember Katherine Heigl in Roswell as Isabel? Now SHE would be a perfect Rosalie. Imperious, bitchy, regal and haughty, and when she wants to, she can turn on the old school glam. It was a similar storyline, too...Isabel was pissed at her 'brother' Max for telling the girl he was in love with that he was an alien. KH played Isabel the way NR should be playing Rosalie.

With how terrible Twilight was, I can't imagine casting Vanessa Hudgens will affect the terrible script, acting, and special effects that already exist in the first film. It's like the world is ending or something. Can we talk about something of substance and content please?

Now, I haven't seen the Twilight movie, but I tried reading the first book. There really isn't anything you can do to make this material worse, except for maybe firing a talented director who did they best they could with horrible material, and they've already done that.

Just cast Q'orianka Kilcher (the girl who played Pocahontas in The New World), for crying out loud! She's a real native american, she's relatively fresh and she can act.

Plus, Vanessa would never let her gorgeous hair go to play a bitchy werewolf who not even gets a proper conclusion in the saga.

Vanessa is a big no. Especially for the soundtrack, because her voice makes my ears bleed. However, it should be pointed out that Robert Pattinson actually has two songs on the soundtrack himself, and both appear in the movie - the first when he's at the restaurant with Bella and the second, I believe, at the prom. Sort of Ray LaMontange-ish in mood, but obviously not nearly as good.

I definitely agree that Vanessa Hudgens should NOT be in the movie. It will ruin the whole movie for me no matter how many parts she'll have in it. I don't think she could fit the part of a warewolf. I mean come on now. Vanessa Hudgens? They should get someone who can actually act and look the part for the movie.

I agree with Bia. The girl from the new world was amazing. And the right age range. Vanessa Hudgins is too young, too peppy, and untalented. As for Nikki Reed, she's lucky the first director had the job at the time or she may not have had one.

Actually Hudgens is perfect for the role (i know cause i've been her fan for a few year now) but its a matter of satisfactory.i would just encourage her enough to try to Convince Disney for yet another HSM movie not only do the fans will cheer in Hollywood And Yet have another sucessfull Movie like HSM3. But i've been reading the comments you all been posting and i think saying VH SUCKS isn't going to change anything. she might already know that sticks and stone might break your bones but words can't harm much, yes you can get harmmed by words but still i believe Hudgens has a strong heart to lead her to Victory. ask her own sister if u don't believe. her sister is the same as her she had the courage to show herself on youtube and made a new acc. if an acc said she's Stella Hudgens Or Vanessa Hudgens i can tell whether it them or fakes. so please if u wanna say someone suck think how would they like it.

hmm, considering leah and sam dated when she was 14, and it doesn't seem like Sam and Emily have been together all THAT long (they're not married yet etc), I would assume Leah is probably about Bella's age, so 17 or 18 when the character is first introduced.

NO. Hudgens shouldn't play Leah.I agree with most of the people on here.what's sad though is i read twilight and the rest of the saga before anyone else did in my school and now all the conformists and fakers are taking a liking to it. i feel so ashamed now that i ever really liked the series because then i'd be put into the same group of screaming twilight fans.and most of the girls that like the books are disney supporters and 'zanessa' lovers so i think they'd be pretty proud with their distruction of a book that was supposed to be a good movie. what's strange is that all the girls i know that are team edward are dumb and idiots and the girls on team jacob are more sane, but i think the whole thing exploded and ruined everything in its path.
