BLOGS
Apparently, Cinema Paradiso got it all wrong: Being a film projectionist is not a magical, life-changing experience. It's scary as hell. At least that's what comic book company Studio 407's new project, The Night Projectionist, wants us to think.
Studio 407 is adapting its own comic book series for the big screen. The timing has to have something to do with Studio 407's blogger recently writing a fun post about the comics, right? Maybe the blog made this happen. That's right: I'm actually saying that blogs can make things happen. How five years ago of me to finally notice that.
Anyway, The Night Projectionist is about a small-town movie theater that's slowly being taken over by vampires. Because it's not bad enough that movies sometimes scare us; now movie theaters will as well. We'll never be able to enjoy light, fluffy stuff again after we find out that there are vampires loose at the movies. Or, wait, wasn't there just another movie about vampires? And weren't they, like, good or something? So maybe instead of scaring people, this will actually lead tween girls (and, let's face it, much older women) to run to the movies in hopes that they'll find their own Edward somewhere among all the big bads.
On a more serious note (or at least as serious as one can be about a vampire/movie projectionist flick), it's actually at least an original concept for a horror movie, and could be pretty fun -- and scary -- with the right director and casting. Which is more than I can say for, oh, almost every scary movie released it the past year. You can preview the comics for a taste of what it will be all about.
