Simon Pegg and Nick Frost Say 'Oui' to Tintin

While some people were excited to see Titanic duo Kate Winslet and Leonardo DiCaprio teaming up again for Revolutionary Road, some of us were eagerly waiting for another big movie pair-up... for Simon Pegg and Nick Frost, co-stars of Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz. Not only will they buddy up again as comic book geeks for 2010's Paul (which the two also wrote) but they've also just been confirmed for Steven Spielberg's big-screen adaptation of Belgian artist Hergé's comic strips, The Adventures of Tintin. The two will play Thompson and Thompson, a pair of bumbling detectives who will be showing up earlier in than they did in Hergé's work, where they first stumbled onto the scene in Tintin's fourth adventure.

"But wait," you might be saying. "I just read The Adventures of Tintin, and Thompson and Thompson are supposed to be nearly identical! Pegg and Frost are about as identical as my thumb and pinky finger!" Mais oui, mon ami. This is where modern computers come in handy, as the movie will be filmed using motion capture technology. This will be old hat to Andy Serkis, who will be playing Captain Haddock in the film. Serkis, of course, provided all of Gollum's movements in the Lord of the Rings trilogy by way of a motion capture suit and a myriad of cameras.

Spielberg and producer Peter Jackson are aiming for a 2010 release, but are still looking for a young actor to play the young reporter of the title, as well as his whiskey-loving fox terrier, Snowy. Since it's all motion-capture anyway, if they get in a pinch, perhaps they could tap Pegg and Frost for double duty...
