Voters name Will Smith Best at Box Office -- Because Who Cares About Facts?

Will Smith was voted the best moneymaker at the box office for 2008, the second time a black actor has been at the top of that list. (The first? Sidney Poitier in 1968.) Okay, I get that Will Smith is a big box-office draw, and I've even been known to acknowledge how well his movies tend to do at the box office. (Seven Pounds is looking like an exception.) But, um, "voted"? "Voted"? As in, they cast a ballot on who made the most money?

Isn't that like asking us all to vote on the weekend box office? It might skew things a little if we all hated the movie we saw and decided to vote for something else. Why exactly would this be a vote instead of an actual statistic? Beats me, but there you have it folks: Will Smith's the best box office draw, determined by a vote conducted by Quigley.

It's not Smith's first time on the list, but it is his first time at number one. He's no Tom Cruise, though, Quigley poll-wise (though he might be Scientology-wise, if the rumors are true). Cruise has topped the list seven times, and been on it 20 times since 1983. Which is extremely important because, you know, it's a list of how much money you make based on people voting. (Is anyone getting that this is ridiculous?)

The full list:

1. Will Smith -- Because Hancock was apparently such a draw that no one noticed what a dud Seven Pounds is.
2. Robert Downey Jr. -- Of course; with Iron Man and Tropic Thunder, he should probably be at the top of the list. And probably would be if it were based on actual numbers instead of people voting.
2. Christian Bale -- Starring in a Batman franchise certainly helps.
4. Shia LaBeouf -- His power doesn't stop at the box office, proven by the string of arrests he's had for trespassing at a Walgreens; "unlawful smoking," whatever that means; and finally, drunk driving -- each time managing to get the charges dropped.
5. Harrison Ford -- The oldest person on the list this year, but he is Indy, so that obviously counts for something.
6. Adam Sandler -- Considering You Don't Mess With the Zohan was one of his movies this year, this just makes me sad.
7. Reese Witherspoon -- No Vince Vaughn? That hardly seems fair.
8. George Clooney -- I love George, but a big box office draw? Really? Maybe some voters were confused about who was starring in this year's Batman movie.
9. Angelina Jolie -- This year? Really? Did Changeling somehow make $200 million without me realizing it? [No, but remember, Wanted made $134 million. - Zach]
10. Daniel Craig -- James Bond deserves to be higher on this list, although I'm not sure Daniel Craig, sans Bond, deserves to be on it at all. So the tenth spot is probably perfect, actually.
