Revealed! Seven Things We Learned From That Christian Bale Rant

So unless you're living in a cave somewhere, by now you've heard the recording of Christian Bale's rant last year on the set of Terminator: Salvation where he goes off on director of photography Shane Hurlbut for allegedly distracting him during filming. (Audio is here, but it's definitely NSFW unless you work some place really laid back about cussing.) By now you've probably also seen everyone weigh in on how awful and/or awesome it was, or how right or wrong it was, so this isn't really about that. No, the thing of more interest to me is what new and/or enlightening information can be learned if you listen closely enough.

Fanboys: A Fanboy's Wet Dream, In All Senses of the Term

When I first heard about a movie in the works called Fanboys -- the tale of five twentysomethings driving cross-country to steal a copy of Star Wars: Episode I: The Phantom Menace -- I thought, "Really? They want to steal The Phantom Menace? Why?" Then I remembered back to right before Episode I came out, and how excited I was about it... and I still couldn't believe it. But then, I was graduating college in May of 1999, so I guess I was a little distracted, but my friends and I must have seen it on opening night, didn't we? Maybe? I honestly can't remember. Obviously, I'm not a die-hard, lifelong Star Wars fan like the characters in this movie. (Although I did buy the Episode I soundtrack, for some reason.) So while Fanboys sounded funny, and like something I might want to see, I didn't obsessively count the minutes until it came out. A good thing, too, because it didn't come out for another three years.

Benjamin Button: The Reality Show? Hells Yes! Earlier today I read that the producers of award darling Slumdog Millionaire have decided to be extra classy, milking the success of the critically lauded film to create a reality show loosely based on the Oscar-nominated movie. Described as a tweaked take on the popular series Secret Millionaire, the brilliantly titled show Secret Slumdog Millionaire will send a bunch of wealthy people into the slums of Mumbai in an effort to help poor people (and assuage rich white guilt or something). Sounds like a brilliant plan! Why not piggyback one crap, potentially exploitative idea on to a relatively good one for maximum stupidity? I've decided to do the same thing, taking ten other films up for Oscars this year and coming up with reality show pitches based on their premises. I better get an executive producing credit for these gems.

Push: Best Heroes Episode Ever?

We've been watching the commercials and trailers for the movie Push for a while now, and we're pretty psyched to see it in theaters. In fact, we're more psyched to see the psychic shenanigans of Push than we are to see every single remaining episode of Heroes Volume 4, a.k.a. "Fugitives." After the disappointment of "Generations" and the further disappointment of "Villains," we'd prefer to see super-powers in the hands of people who will actually do interesting things with them, and not just act stupid, visit the future and let themselves get tricked all the time. Here are our reasons Push is the best Heroes episode ever, and why Friday night is our new Monday night.

Ten Neil Gaiman Works We'd Like to See At the Movies

For those not in the geeky know, Neil Gaiman is a prolific author and comic book (or graphic novel if you are prissy about it) writer in the sci-fi/fantasy genre. He's a pretty damned big deal in that world (and it is a good world to live in), and now more and more of his written works have been getting the big screen treatment. Neverwhere was made into a UK miniseries, and MirrorMask and Stardust landed to a bit of a culty buzz on the silver screen. The newest adaptation, Coraline, arrives this week. This dark and twisted "children's tale" about a girl who stumbles into alternate version of her life has been turned into a stop-motion feast for the eyes that evokes The Nightmare Before Christmas. While we're excited about this new release, it only makes us want more, and considering the crap load of mediocre fantasy films that have been unloaded on to viewing audiences since The Lord of the Rings and Harry Potter hit it big, it is about time we are given some fantasy that we might actually enjoy.

We'd Like to Thank the Academy: New Oscar Section Goes Live

The Oscars are rapidly approaching on February 22, and we've created a sweet Oscar section on the site full of galleries celebrating the upcoming ceremonies, as well as looking at Oscar moments from previous Academy Awards events. (Hey, did you ever notice that while the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences defines "academy" to mean "a society of artists," most Hollywood movies define it as "a school where wacky hjinks occur"? See: Police Academy, Snowboard Academy, Ninja Academy and Stripper Academy. Wait -- on second thought, don't see Stripper Academy.) Check back on Oscar night, and we'll have a liveblog of the ceremony as well as lists of winners as they're announced. And if you want to see who we think is going to win this year's Academy Awards (and who we want to win), check out our Picks and Predictions gallery. (If you want to see who we think is going to win the Police Academy Awards, we'll just tell you. It's totally gonna be Steve Guttenberg.)

Trailers Without Pity: Knowing

Okay, normally we make fun of Nicolas Cage movies, but his newest one doesn't look half bad. Take his underwhelming Next, add a little Final Destination, some Mothman Prophecies and a smidge of The Day After Tomorrow... Okay, that does sound bad. But the trailer somehow makes it work. What's more, all of these elements (plane crashes, magical numbers that predict future events, whispering strangers in the woods) add up to what feels like a big episode of Lost, and that can't be all bad, can it? The Gallaga brothers may not buy into our Lost comparison, but they have their own take on the trailer in their latest video. Check out the new "Trailers Without Pity" after the jump!

The Celebrity Fanboys You'll See in Fanboys

Star Wars fanboys. They're everywhere -- especially in Hollywood. So when it was announced that someone was making a movie called Fanboys, chronicling five Midwestern geeks' cross-country trip to steal a copy of Star Wars: Episode I for their friend with terminal cancer, there were plenty of famous fanboys ready and willing to be involved. Director Kyle Newman lined up a host of celebu-nerds to make cameos in the film, ranging from geek icons to actual Star Wars film legends. If the killer leads (Sam "Superman Returns" Huntington! Dan "Balls of Fury" Fogler! Jay "Tropic Thunder" Baruchel!) weren't enough to convince you to see it, we thought we'd run down the celebrity eye candy that will teach you the true meaning of the Force. (Note: While we try to avoid giving out any spoiler-ish plot information, we are totally killing any surprise that you may get from these actors showing up. Be warned!)

Nine Reasons I'm Just Not That Into He's Just Not That Into You This Friday marks the release of He's Just Not That In To You, the über-chick-flick we've all been dreading waiting for. Produced by Drew Barrymore and starring everyone and their mom, the film allegedly dispenses some tough-love conventional wisdom about dudes, dating, monogamy and rejection in the digital age. But with humor! And bonus: Just when you thought it couldn't get any worse, it's loosely based on a self-help book of the same name that was, in turn, based on an episode of Sex and the City. Below are nine reasons I'm just not that into this stupid excuse for a movie.

Screw Football -- Are You Ready For Some Movie Trailers?

Last night, millions of fans gathered around the TV to watch the Super Bowl, but not all of them were watching for the sport of it. Some were watching purely for the commercials, because so many new ones get rolled out during the broadcast. (And at $3 million a pop, they'd better be good.) The movie studios were not excluded from that, airing 11 different movie trailers during the game, including some brand-new ones (Angels and Demons, Fast & Furious) and a few slightly rehashed oldies (Star Trek, Up). While they only had 30 seconds to make their cases, there were five new trailers that did a bang-up job. Here are our faves from last night.
