Adventureland: This Isn't The Sex Comedy You're Looking For

Despite the humorous trailers and the "From the director of Superbad" tag, Adventureland is not an Apatow-esque comedy. In fact, Judd Apatow had absolutely nothing to do with this movie. And in many ways, Bill Hader and Kristen Wiig's interludes not withstanding, comedy has very little to do with this movie. While the non-SNL-related situations in Adventureland may at times veer into the realm of comedy, they just as quickly veer out, and get very sad. Not sad as in pathetic -- I mean sad as in depressing. Adventureland is a bleak indie film disguised as a teen sex romp, and while the joke may be on the people who come to the theater looking for a good time, the last laugh may go to people like me, who go in with low expectations and are pleasantly surprised by the movie's depths.

Bridget Jones: Yet Another Unnecessary Sequel

It's almost here. Because you all were begging for it. The return of Renee Zellwegger in yet another sequel to 2001's Bridget Jones' Diary. Apparently, they're going to base the third installment on a series of columns author Helen Fielding wrote about Bridget trying to have a child in her 40s, and production will start later this year. Unfortunately, we're kind of over Ms. Jones at this point, after her last wacky and unnecessary adventure brought her antics to the edge of reasonableness. Sure, it'll probably make money, but it seems like that's really the only reason they're making it. (Well, that and actually giving Zellwegger something to do.) And it's not the first sequel that should never have existed. We won't go so far as to say that all sequels are a bad idea, but a good number of them are, and many of them involve Vin Diesel somehow. These are ten that we actively resent the existence of.

Trailers Without Pity: Public Enemies

It's a gangster movie, see? Starring Johnny Depp and Christian Bale, see? Directed by Michael Mann, see? You don't see? Well, see what multi-tasking Smallville recapper Omar Gallaga and his brother Pablo think about the new trailer for Public Enemies ("Sexy!" "Oscar-worthy!" "Mustache-rific!") in the latest installment of "Trailers Without Pity," which we have embedded for your viewing convenience after the jump. It's got Marion Cotillard in it! And tommy guns!
