Haunted Honeymoon: Dom DeLuise's Greatest Role Ever?

Comedian Dom DeLuise died on Monday, and the listing of the movie roles has begun. Most obituaries will mention his long partnership with Mel Brooks: as a lead bumbler in Silent Movie, the megaphone-toting director cameo in Blazing Saddles, the gluttonous Emperor in History of the World Part 1. More will play up his long friendship with Burt Reynolds: Cannonball Run 1 & 2, Smokey & the Bandit 2, All Dogs Go to Heaven -- you know, the greats. But I will bet you dollars to donuts (a bet DeLuise made often, and lost) that few, if any, will mention Haunted Honeymoon. Probably because it seems to turn up on a couple of "worst movies of all time" lists, but it's the one I know him best from, and it's one of my favorite films of all time. Despite a brilliant performance by DeLuise and a slew of genuinely funny moments from him, Gene Wilder and Gilda Radner, it doesn't seem to get much respect. My ringing endorsement isn't going to change that, but here goes nothing.

Star Trek: Two Live Crews Face Off

Ever since they began revealing the fresh-faced young Enterprise crew and their Macbook-looking bridge, we've been worried about J.J. Abrams' new Star Trek movie. Would it pay tribute to the classic show that had come before it, and manage to simultaneously honor and ignore the easily enraged fan base? As more and more trailers and clips surface, and reports roll in from the privileged few who've seen it, the answer seems to be "yes." With some notable exceptions, the Enterprise crew is the spitting image of the crew that came before, and we compared each and every crew member to their predecessor to make sure. Check out our guide to the Past and Present Casts of Star Trek, and let us know what you think of the movie below!

X-Men Origins: Wolverine: What Were You Expecting, Doctor Zhivago?

I'm not really sure why movie critics complain about superhero movies being loud and stupid. I am an avowed lover of comic books -- superhero books in particular -- and I will be the first to admit that superhero comics are mostly pretty stupid. Even the really smart ones (Watchmen, Sandman) are based on stupid principles, i.e., that people who can fly, pop claws, shoot laser beams, etc. will put on tights and fight crime. So why do critics -- particularly the ones I've heard called "comic book tourists" -- continue to look for depth, meaning and artistry? Were they spoiled by last year's summer of high-quality superhero flicks, and they want Wolverine to shoulder the full responsibility this year, since it's the only superhero movie coming out? Talk about putting all of your eggs in one basket.

Ghosts of Girlfriends Past: 10 People Too Good For This Movie

I saw the new Matthew McConaughey movie the other night and it was far from his worst film that I've had the displeasure of sitting through, but it was still pretty terrible. Basically McConaughey is playing Connor Mead, a rich playboy photographer who has a diligent assistant who copes with his personal and professional life with ease (it made me think of Daniel Meade on Ugly Betty... which should have been a red flag). Connor's the kind of guy who breaks up with girls in groups via conference call. He ends up at his brother's wedding (where he's slept with 3 out of 4 of the bridesmaids) and basically ruins everything with his assy behavior and rude attitudes towards commitment.

So he's visited by the ghost of his Uncle Wayne, the man who taught him everything he knows about ladies, who in the afterlife has come to realize that relationships and spooning aren't so bad. Wayne dispatches three ghosts to set Connor straight, in this lame attempt to take the Christmas out of A Christmas Carol. The film does earn a few points for winking at the audience about the fact that it is a Christmas Carol redo, but that's about it. Instead, while McConaughey has made his fame/money on starring in cheesy rom-coms, I mostly spent the entire time thinking that the rest of the cast could do better than this mish-mosh of a movie. Here's what the other talented co-stars were forced to do to earn their paycheck for this film.
