Drag Me to Hell: 10 Reasons Why You Shouldn't Mess With Old People

In Sam Raimi's new horror movie, Drag Me to Hell, a girl is cursed to be forcibly taken you-know-where after she gets shovey with an old lady at her bank. Uh, is she crazy? Has she never seen a movie before in her life? You do not mess with old people. They've been around the block a few times, and they know how to make your life hell, either literally or figuratively. Be especially wary of ones with vague Eastern European accents -- you never know when you're going to get slapped with some sort of culturally stereotypical curse. (It's not racial profiling, it's just common sense.) Here are ten movies featuring old people who are not to be trifled with.

Exorcist III (1989)
When Lionel Richie wrote "Dancing on the Ceiling," he wasn't thinking of elderly mental patients crawling around above the rec room. Don't look up, George C. Scott. Do. Not. Look. Up.

Burnt Offerings (1976)
When you rent a vacation home, and the one rule is that you have to feed the old lady locked in her room upstairs -- the old lady who doesn't like visitors -- you may want to ask some questions, or go stay at the Days Inn.

The 'Burbs (1989)
"Klopek"? What is that, Slavic? Maybe not, but only coming out at night to dig in the back yard is definitely sketchy behavior, and by no means should you enter the house to see what's in the furnace.

Thinner (1996)
Old people hate it -- hate it -- when you run over their family members. They'll curse you to lose weight until you die, but only if you're already fat. It's more ironic that way. Skinny people they'd probably just stab in the eyes.

Duplex (2003)
You know what, Drew Barrymore and Ben Stiller? You go mess with that old lady upstairs whose apartment you want. Mess with her as much as you like. You'll get what's coming to you. Both of you. Mwa ha ha!

The Skeleton Key (2005)
The most thankless occupation in the world? Caregiver to the elderly. Also, the occupation most likely to place you under the influence of hoodoo.

Bram Stoker's Dracula (1992)
Hey, that's no old lady, that's Gary Oldman! When old people are trying to steal your girlfriend and drain her of her precious bodily fluids, that's when it's time to call in other old people to deal with it. Someone get me Sir Anthony Hopkins!

The Others (2001)
"But I am your daughter!" Oh, no you sure as hell aren't! Get out of my daughter, creepy old lady ghost! And you'd better not be planning any damn twist ending, either!

Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves (1991)
The Sheriff's witch, Mortianna, will do anything to fulfill her portents, including arranging forced marriages and stabbing Morgan Freeman with a pike. Not Morgan Freeman! He's a national treasure! Stab Costner!

Big Trouble in Little China (1986)
Lo Pan was so old he was played by a skin puppet, but his endless wrinkles and rickety wheelchair hid a living god with lightning powers who wants to steal your truck and your Kim Catrall. Forget old people, just don't mess with James Hong.

Which old people are you the most scared of? No fair listing relatives.
