Like one vampire dropping another off of a roof onto her neck, to her mere annoyance, or a man having sex with the wife of the friend he murdered, and the friend's ghost is pinioned between the two as they attempt to copulate. Park was showing us ridiculous scenarios back when his casts were fully human -- now that they are virtually unkillable, can lift heavy objects and can leap from rooftop to rooftop, they only get more ridiculous.

But the scenarios start out fairly grounded. A priest travels to Africa to volunteer as a test subject to help find a cure for a horrible, plague-like disease, and when the cure fails, he dies. But having accidentally given a transfusion of vampire-tainted blood (don't ask where it came from), he immediately returns to life, and eventually, in his job at the hospital in Korea where he works, discovers that human blood makes the symptoms of the disease go away. His life spirals out of control from there, as he reconnects with a woman from his childhood who makes him believe her husband is abusive. One murder leads to another, leads to another, until the priest decides to make the woman a vampire as well. And then things get worse. Needless to say, this is not a movie for the queasy, but what vampire movie is? (Twilight fans, you may be in for a bit of a shock.)

If I were describing the movie to a fan of the director, this would be easy. I'd just say, "It's Lady Vengeance, but with vampires." Not exactly, of course, but the elements are all there. In fact, this might as well be a fourth installment in the "Vengeance" trilogy, as the revenge (both real and misguided) flies fast and furious in this film. Being a vampire flick, there are more special effects, of course, but they're pleasantly understated, limited to graceful leaps, throwing people across rooms and tearing the occasional part off of a car. Fans who have only seen Oldboy will certainly enjoy this one, and even those who thought Oldboy was overrated may find a bit more to chew on here. No pun intended.
