The Greatest John Hughes Movie Quotes of All Time

The world lost a great filmmaker this week, as legendary screenwriter and director John Hughes passed away. Not only did the man write and direct many of the 1980s' greatest, funniest films -- Sixteen Candles, The Breakfast Club, Ferris Bueller's Day Off -- he wrote the screenplays for dozens more, including Pretty in Pink, Home Alone and the first three Vacation movies. We went through his body of work to pull out some of the funniest lines that we still quote to this day.

Shorts: This is What Robert Rodriguez has Been Working On This Whole Time?

Robert Rodriguez is known for two different kinds of films: bloody, sexy, hyper-violent crime-horror stories... and kiddie flicks, likely made to entertain his five awesomely named kids: Rocket, Racer, Rebel, Rogue and Rhiannon. While some of his kiddie flicks can be pretty entertaining to an open-minded adult (parts of Spy Kids 3-D are pure genius), mostly they're for the 12-and-under crowd, like the Racer-penned Shark Boy and Lava Girl. So when adult film buffs are sitting around waiting for any of the dozen genre projects under Rodriguez's purview to come to fruition, and he gives us the whimsical wish-fulfillment fantasy Shorts... well, we get a little depressed. Here are some of the projects that, given our druthers, Rodriguez should have been working on instead of Shorts.

The 10 Best Celebrity-on-Celebrity Impersonations Ever Julie & Julia is going to be great, not only because the effervescent Amy Adams is in it, but also because Meryl Streep somehow found a way to do a Julia Child impression that wasn't embarrassing. This is unprecedented. Which got me thinking about some of my favorite celebrity impersonations in film (not necessarily biopics, which are by and large the worst), and decided to put together a list of them. Which means it's ground-rules time.

Trailers Without Pity: Jennifer's Body

Whew! Finally, the summer is almost over, which means we don't have to look at any more pictures of Transformers 2 star Megan Fox and can move on to... What? She has another movie coming out? In which she stars as an evil high school student who likes having sex wiht boys but is actually a demon? Great. Now we can look forward to another month of photographs of her wearing red-carpet fashions and biting her tongue to make herself look either more or less attractive (we're not exactly sure which she's going for with that). Plus, more Diablo Cody talk-show appearances, to boot. Vloggers Omar and Pablo G. dissect the Jennifer's Body redband trailer -- and the Fox phenomenon herself -- in the latest installment of "Trailers Without Pity." Watch it below, or click here!

I Want My DVD: August 4, 2009

The mix of awesome and terrible in this week's batch of DVD releases could tear your heart in half. Actually, there's more terrible than awesome, so it will more likely tear your heart into a one-quarter/three-quarters split. ... Okay, one-eighth/seven-eighths.

G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra: Could The Movie Actually Be Good?

Here at MWoP, we've been taking a "wait-and-see-but-don't-hold-your-breath" approach to the G.I. Joe live-action movie. Early on, the visual disparities from the cartoon were pretty jarring, but then, so were the X-Men movie costumes, and that worked out okay. (I'll leave the Transformers movie designs aside, since A. I still don't like them and B. the movies were successful in spite of them, making my opinion moot.) But when the commercials and action scenes started showing up -- including performance-enhancing accelerator suits, which were never part of the G.I. Joe mythos until very recently -- we started to worry a bit more. And now they've declined to screen the movie for the press. But given the fact that negative buzz got so bad at one point that director Stephen Sommers (Van Helsing) was rumored to have been fired, that may be a wise choice. Regardless, it seems there may be nothing to worry about.

Julie & Julia: Amy Adams Makes Everything Better

Man we love Amy Adams. Is there nothing she can't do? No role she can't play? Enchanted princess, reserved nun, Amelia Earhart? It sure doesn't seem like it. We bet she could have even played chef Julia Child in Julie and Julia, but the casting of Meryl Streep is just too perfect. And we're just as happy to see Adams as Julie, the modern-day woman who tries to cook her way through the entire Julia Child cookbook. To see the other movies that Adams has made better through her presence, check out our highly scientific Guide to Amy Adams Being Awesome.

Ten Movies that Need Prequels More than Alien

Director Ridley Scott recently announced that he was about to begin work on a prequel to one of his most popular films, the sci-fi/horror/genre-defining movie Alien. While we can't deny that we'd love to see a good Alien movie, a prequel seems like the wrong way to go, since Sigourney Weaver's Ripley, the fan-favorite character from the series, couldn't be in it, and to show where exactly the xenomorphs come from would take all of the mystery out of them. We came up with a list of genre films that need prequels -- good ones -- more than Alien does, starting with another Ridley Scott film...
