The Time Traveler's Wife Shouldn't Even Be a Lifetime Movie I guess this movie warrants a whole review. I don't have a whole lot say about it, because it's one of the laziest, most forgettable pieces of pandering garbage I've seen in a while, so I'll just keep this brief. Long story short: anybody could've written that screenplay. I could've written it. You could've written it. And it wouldn't have even taken either of us very long -- maybe a Sunday afternoon -- and we could have done other things while we were writing it, like, fold a pair of jeans, rip off a random part from a time traveling thing we sort of remember from another movie or show, mix a drink, write a line of half-hearted, uninspired "romantic" dialogue, brush the cat's teeth, write another Eric Bana's butt appearance -- oh! I forgot to tell you! You see Eric Bana's butt in this movie more often than you see his face. I am serious. So if you're really into Eric Bana's butt, now you know where you can find it. (More like The Time Traveler's Butt, am I right?)

I should come clean and admit that I didn't read the book, so I had no nostalgia for the characters and story going in that you may have, but I just have to imagine that the book is so different from the movie that the only thing the two share is a title and the names of the characters. I can't imagine anyone really loving this. Anyone. Aside from having the most derivative and undeveloped time travel story I've probably ever seen (they're just kind of like, his brain! Has a chemical? And it makes him go! We rest our case.), the characters are pretty unsympathetic. First of all, he systematically manipulates her into being obsessed with him beginning when she is a very small child. He's just this awful, reprehensible predator. She never stood a chance against that, but even so -- why would this wife person marry this time traveler person? I can understand being attracted to him and caring about him, because you can't always help that, but duh, marrying this guy is going to be an awful ride. She seems almost surprised by this? And she, like, saves herself for him, even though he leaves her when she's 18 and doesn't come back until she's well into her 20s? Weird. And then she gets pregnant a bunch of times, but each time she miscarries because the fetus teleports out of her? Which, admittedly, ROFLcopters, movie. Well played. But then she just flat-out refuses to adopt even though a) miscarriages are very upsetting and painful, not to mention the fact that she is littering the time-space continuum with fetuses willy-nilly, and b) even if she does carry a child to term, it's obviously going to have this same awful, miserable affliction its father has, but whatever, she wants her own baby? What an asshole. And Ron Livingston (named Gomez, here. Gomez.) is hanging around, and then at the end Eric Bana is like, "You were the greatest friend I ever had," but, for some reason, all of said epic friendship happened off-screen? So how could we possibly care? And don't even get me started on the ending, which I guess I shouldn't spoil for you, but she and the kid get a really raw deal. That's all I'm saying.

So, it's dumb and boring, but it contains Eric Bana's butt and Rachel McAdams is very pretty. That's all you need to know. The end.

Did you see it too? I'm sorry. Let's talk about it.
