BLOGS
Comedy lovers, watch out! The smash feel-good hit of the year is here, and it's even funnier in the privacy of your own home! That's right, Angels and Demons is out on DVD. ...What, did you think I meant Funny People? Have you seen that movie?
Funny People
To be fair, there are a lot of funny people in this, the third feature film from 40 Year Old Virgin and Knocked Up director Judd Apatow. But in many ways, this is the least funny of the three. It's not doom and gloom all the time, but you've got a guy saying good-bye to everyone he knows because he thinks he's dying of cancer, then chasing after his married ex, which isn't so much romantic here as it is immoral, and the whole time he acts like a big, cranky baby. That said, there are some pretty funny parts, although after the 10th time Adam Sandler asks Seth Rogen how big his junk is, it starts getting a little uncomfortable.
Angels & Demons
Unfortunately, there are no angels nor demons in this prequel to The Da Vinci Code, only assassins and antimatter. Dan Brown knows that antimatter isn't made by angels, right? Coincidentally, DVC's Paul Bettany plays an angel in the upcoming Legion.
Four Christmases
Now that this movie is on DVD, we can portion this one out, so we only have to deal with one Christmas at a time. All four at once made us feel a little bloated.
Rock & Rule
This isn't the first DVD release of this animated feature, but if you haven't seen this movie about rockers in a future populated by mutants singing the songs of Cheap Trick, Debbie Harry, Iggy Pop and Lou Reed -- not covers of the songs, the actual songs -- you really owe it to yourself to check it out.
National Lampoon Presents ROBODOC
We would mock the National Lampoon for making a movie about a robot doctor, but we have to give them props for finally uniting David Faustino, Corin Nemec, Alan Thicke and Michael Winslow. It's really the dream team.
Imagine That
No, Eddie Murphy, we will not imagine that, thank you.
Also out this week:
Snow White The DVD version of the special Blu-Ray edition released a couple months ago. Okay, Disney, we get it -- you want us to buy a Blu-Ray player. Jeez.
Santa Buddies The latest in the series of films about puppies who are my buddies.
Shorts If Robert Rodriguez needs to make a surreal kids' movie before he can make a kick-ass action flick, so be it.
The Maiden Heist Morgan Freeman, Christopher Walken and William H. Macy as those three thieving security guards from Night at the Museum. It's a spin-off, right?
Gomorrah (Criterion Collection) Apparently, working for the Italian mob sucks.
Taking Chances We thought we knew about all of Justin Long's forgettable comedies. Missed one!
Janky Promoters If I'm getting my urban slang right, this movie is about two very good promoters.

It's a shame that Judd Apatow somehow lost his ability to be sweet and crass at the same time during 'Funny People.' I blame Adam Sandler.
Eric Bana was pretty fantastic, though.
Hooray! Rock N Rule! I have a bootleg version. Wish they would have released a soundtrack.
I went against my "No Adam Sandler Movies" rule and watched Funny People. I really wish I hadn't. Damn you, Seth Rogen! You're so adorable that I go against my better judgement.
What happened to my comment? Why is it so difficult to comment on these pages?
Anywhoo, as I said Imagine That, Gomorrah, and Maiden Heist have been out. I work part-time at Blockbuster and know that the former two have been out for at least a month.
