It's hard to forget Milla Jovovich. With her piercing eyes and model looks, she stands out in most of her films, and has actually played a slew of memorable roles, from her Return to the Blue Lagoon roots to the star-making The Fifth Element to the epically dull The Messenger to the flashy, nonsensical Resident Evil series. But in between, Jovovich does these bizarre smaller films that you've never heard of, many of which never even make it to theaters. Milla fans may know and love them, but the rest of America stumbles across them in their local Redbox and is like, "What the hell is this?" Here are five we watched for Milla, but remember little else about.
Kuffs (1992)
An attempt at a more grown-up role for teen heatthrob Christian Slater, this action comedy had a gorgeous, 17-year-old Milla as Slater's pregnant girlfriend, as he tried to get a security business off the ground and be a good father, or something. We don't remember the details, we only know that Milla wasn't in it anywhere near as much as she should have been.
The Claim (2000)
Milla plays a brothel owner in a frontier town who leaves her wealthy lover for Wes Bentley, who's seeing if the railroad will come through this town or somewhere else. Sarah Polley's in it, too. There's a lot of snow, and some shooting. We vaguely remember a fire.
Dummy (2002)
Adrien Brody is apparently a guy with problems, in that he always carries a ventriloquist dummy and talks to it, or through it, or something. It's like Lars and the Real Girl, but with a dummy instead of a sex doll. Milla plays his friend, a loud-mouthed tomboy rapper/musician who is crazier than he is. She's pretty ridiculous.
.45 (2006)
We rented it because it came first, alphabetically, on our local Redbox, but we couldn't even make it through this movie starring Milla as a gun dealer's girlfriend, who wants to leave him because he beats her, but also wants to kill him, maybe. We're 99% certain of the caliber of the handgun she would use, since it's in the title.
Ultraviolet (2006)
All we remember is that this movie looked really good in the commercials, but when we got in the theater, there was this blur that lasted for a couple of hours, in which Milla was a vampire, and she had to protect a little boy from people, and her hair changed color a lot. That's all we know. Oh, and she had a sword.
What's your favorite Milla Jovovich movie? Stake your claim below, dummy.

Zoolander, of course!
Should have watched .45 all the way through. You missed the make out in the shower between Milla and Aisha Taylor.
5th Element
and the first Resident Evil
I admit most of the movies are bad. But somehow she's great to watch as the action hero.
Favorite... Milla Jovovich movie?
I understand the words, but strung together like that they don't make any sense.
Not only her hair color changed in "Ultraviolet." Her skintight leather outfits changed to match!
But the real question... WTF is Redbox and could it possibly be better than Netflix?
Fifth Element is fun, though.
@ Olive - Redbox is a vending machine dvd rental thing. It's outside wal-marts and grocery stores and it costs a dollar a rental for 24 hours. It's literally a red box. It's not bad if you're just looking for recent releases or popular older items. Of course, it doesn't come right to your door and you only get it for 24 hours. IMHO, Netflix is waaayy better.
My favorite is Fifth Element, but it would be Dazed and Confused if I considered that Milla's movie. Did she even have more than 1 line in that?
She also starred in Wim Wender's brilliant, bizarre "Million Dollar Hotel" and was memorable in "No Good Deed" with Samuel L. Jackson. Milla balances working on action blockbusters (like "Resident Evil" series) with smaller, more risky, adventurous fare, bringing admirable talent and commitment to both. I include Luc Besson's "The Messenger" in the latter category of film, I say it is a great film, as ambitious as it is gorgeous and tragic. It was a $40 million art house film, Luc Besson's crowning achievement, and Milla's most memorable role. Serious filmmaking at its best.
Fifth Element!
Kuffs was about a loser who tries to become useful and help the cops avenge his brother's death.
Yes it's a bit silly : )
I fell in love with her in The Fifth Element.
Oddly enough, when I ignored the lack of plot in Ultraviolet, the movie had some really good stuff, especially at the end, and Milla gave a really good performance.
So where is "The Million Dollar Hotel?" This was a great little known film with Milla as a somewhat crazy tenet in this hotel where the murder of a young artist has occurred.
Milla was so awesome in Dummy. There were a lot of great character actors in that one and she still stole the whole thing.
Man Resident Evil by far is my favorite of hers...She's so sexy in those:-) & I'm ready for the 4th Resident Evil coming out Aug 27th.
