I Want My DVD: Tuesday, January 19, 2010

We get it, Ricky Gervais -- you were very funny in The Office. But what have you done for us lately that wasn't annoying? We thought as much.

The Bourne Identity/The Bourne Supremacy/The Bourne Ultimatum (Blu-ray/DVD Flipper Disc)
Can't decide if you want to get a Blu-ray player or stick with your perfectly adequate DVD player? Well, these new editions of the Bourne Trilogy have a DVD on one side and a Blu-ray on the other, so you won't have to throw 'em on eBay once you finally embrace the new technology and make the switch. Plus, you can finally toss out your Bourne VHS tapes, or use them as a lightweight body armor.

The Invention of Lying
We'd give you the pitch on this star-studded Ricky Gervais comedy, but if you watched Gervais hosting the Golden Globes on Sunday, that was pretty much a long, star-studded infomercial for this movie and other Gervais projects that he got paid to promote. Well played, sir. Well played

Gamer
Before Avatar made avatars all cool and stuff, Gerard Butler was a living video game avatar in this dystopic movie from the writer-directors of Crank, Crank 2 and that psychotic fever dream you had that time you drank a bottle of hot, acid-laced Dr. Pepper. While it's no Crank, Michael C. Hall is especially amazing as the Southern mastermind behind the televised deathmatches, who likes to program convicts to perform musical numbers.

Pandorum
We're still not entirely sure what this movie is about, or what the title means, but it looks like Aliens meets Event Horizon meets The Descent, so it can't be that bad, right? Oh, really? That bad? Never mind.

Whiteout
It's amazing how a story that's incredibly gripping and fascinating in comic book form can look so dull and pointless in movie form. We blame an over-reliance on special effects and any sort of reliance on Kate Beckinsale.

Also out this week:
Angus Thongs and Perfect Snogging Winner of the "Least Understandable Title" Award at the Edinborough Film Festival.
Smokin' Aces 2: Assassins' Ball Not to be confused with Monster's Ball 2: Smokin' Asses.
Kingdom of the Spiders (Special Edition) No William Shatner commentary track? Gyp.
Blood Creek Finally, Joel Schumacher has found his niche: schlocky horror flicks about undead Nazi supermen.
No Impact Man The documentary about a man trying to do as little as possible that nobody is talking about!
Across the Hall Volume 13 in the complete Brittany Murphy library.
