BLOGS
Our lead item today is a special edition of a ten-year-old film, but one that stands along side A Knight's Tale and Can't Hardly Wait in the pantheon of films that will stand the test of time. Yes, it's just that good.
10 Things I Hate About You (Two-Disc Special Edition)
Whether you're picking up this decade-old movie due to a love of the new TV series on ABC Family or a desire to see a Heath Ledger movie where he doesn't keep turning into Colin Farrell, it's a pretty sweet purchase. In addition to Ledger and Julia Stiles, the movie stars Joseph Gordon-Levitt, currently winning people over in (500) Days of Summer and in his Saturday Night Live appearances. And this new edition sports a ton of cool extras, including casting footage, cast interviews, deleted scenes, commentary tracks and a retrospective featurette! Nothing to hate here.
Trucker
It may not exactly be Michelle Monaghan's Monster -- do all lady truck drivers look that good in tank-tops? -- but Trucker is definitely worth watching, if only for Nathan Fillion's semi-dramatic turn as her boozy drinking buddy and possible love interest. The man falls down drunk and abandons construction projects like a pro. Sadly, there are only a couple of so-so extras -- why didn't anybody hand Fillion a camcorder?
Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs (Two-Disc Super-Sized Edition)
We loved the book as kids, but we don't remember there being a monkey in it. Not that we're complaining -- monkeys improve everything. Night at the Museum, Madagascar... all made better by monkeys. And that voice cast! Bill Hader, Anna Faris, Benjamin Bratt, James Caan, Andy Samberg, Bruce Campbell, Mr. T, Neil Patrick Harris, Lauren Graham, Will Forte... It's like a TV lover's dream come true! Getting Hader to do the director's commentary was a brilliant move, by the way, although getting his SNL cronies to help out would have been nice, too. Add in extended scenes and a behind-the-scenes doc, and you've got one hell of a meal.
The Final Destination 3-D
In case you couldn't tell by the definite article, this is the final destination, not a final destination. There's apparently more than one.
Elvis Presley Gladiators: The 1974 Elvis Karate Legacy Project
Do not be fooled: this is Elvis Presley-funded documentary footage of the U.S. Karate team in 1974, and not an incomplete martial-arts epic starring Elvis, as the descriptions and box art would lead you to believe. There is apparently Elvis karate footage in the extras, but I doubt it's anything worth such a magnificent title.
Also out this week:
Good Witch
Catherine Bell is a witch in this Lifetime original movie, and we smell a series. Army Witches!
50 Dead Men Walking
Does Rose McGowan do an Irish accent in this movie? They conspicuously refuse to let her talk in the trailer.
The Circuit
You work that stock-car race track, Michelle Trachtenberg.

10 Things I Hate About You really is a wonderful movie. I re-watched it recently and yes, it's obviously intended for teens but there is enough cleverness and enough charm for it to still be enjoyable 10 years later.
