Martin Scorsese is Going 3-D: Is Taxi Driver 3-D Next?

Who ever thought we'd see the day that acclaimed auteur Martin Scorsese would direct a 3-D film? Granted, it's for his adaptation of the children's book The Invention of Hugo Cabret, which apparently has a robot in it, but still! It makes us wonder how cinema would have evolved differently if only he'd embraced this technology earlier. We took a look back at his resume and picked out some appropriate movies to 3-D-ify when he inevitably gets around to converting his back catalog.

Taxi Driver (1976)
Are you talking to me? Are you talking to me? Because it sure looks like you're talking to me! In fact, it looks like you're right in front of me! With Taxi Driver 3-D, you'll be so close to Travis Bickle that you'll want to reach out and rub his mohawk. Also, the porno film he takes Betsy to should be a 3-D porno film. Just add glasses!

Raging Bull (1980)
You'll feint and dodge with every punch Jake La Motta dishes out, because they'll look like they're coming right for your solar plexus! To complete the interactive experience, each theater will also give you a pair of boxing gloves to hide behind.

The Color of Money (1986)
It's in the way that you use it! And we say use the 3-D process to make every game of pool in this movie look like a scene out of Raiders of the Lost Ark. That 8-ball's coming right for us!

The Last Temptation of Christ (1988)
Let he who is without sin cast the first stone and say that this movie shouldn't be translated into 3-D. Imagine the 3-D stonings! The 3-D resurrections! The 3-D visions! The 3-D crucifixions! When Jesus rips his own heart out and presents it to his disciples, you will become a true believer.

GoodFellas (1990)
As far back as I can remember, I always wanted to be a gangster see this movie in 3-D, if only for the crazy long shot of Henry and Karen going in the back door of the Copacabana. Look out for that waiter!

The Age of Innocence (1993)
The innocence will be flying fast and furious once this film gets the 3-D treatment! Finally, thanks to the magic of modern technology, we'll be able to feel what it was like to be part of such a rigidly structured society, and also to be trapped in an engagement to Winona Ryder.

Gangs of New York (2002)
Considering that 3-D was basically created so that horror movies could throw knives at the camera and freak audiences out, this movie seems ripe for the process, since Daniel Day-Lewis and Leonardo DiCaprio spend practically the entire movie throwing knives at each other. And Bill the Butcher's handlebar mustache? It'll put your eye out.
