Daybreakers
Willem Dafoe has always looked slightly cadaverous to us, but the undead lifestyle has been paying well recently. He famously played a vampire pretending to be a human actor in Shadow of the Vampire, and he was also a vamp in Cirque du Freak, but in Daybreakers he plays a human who has recently been cured of his vampirism. Ethan Hawke and Sam Neill are among the other pasty, sickly-looking people in the film, which is actually a pretty cool and stylish flick in the tradition of Blade and Dark City. And if you're curious to see what the new Dark Crystal movie will look like, these are the directors who will be handling it.

I'd like to thank this movie for revitalizing my side business of selling drawings of angels holding machine guns to tattoo shops across America. (Number 27, "St. Peter shirtless with Uzi," is particularly popular.)

Edge of Darkness (Blu-ray/DVD Combo)
It's a shame this intense revenge movie, a return to form for Mel Gibson, was overshadowed by the man's confrontational interview style. I do not have a dog in this race, but I do have a cat who can ski.

Malice in Wonderland
It's a shame such a magnificent pun was wasted on a lame Maggie Grace indie film and not a Wonderland version of Malice, the 1993 film starring Alec Baldwin and Nicole Kidman. "Now, go ahead and read your Bible, Alice, and you go to your church, and with any luck you might win the annual raffle. But if you're looking for the walrus, he was eating oysters with the carpenter on November 17, and he doesn't like to be second-guessed. You ask me if I have a walrus complex. Let me tell you something: I am the walrus."

The Beatles: Behind the Curtain (documentary)
If you don't know what the Beatles were all about by now, I'm not sure a documentary with a lot of interview footage is going to help.

Essential Art House: Kurosawa Collection
Three Kurosawa Komedy Klassics on DVD! ...Well, one is a comedy, anyway. The grim Ikiru and Throne of Blood adapt It's a Wonderful Life and MacBeth, respectively, but Hidden Fortress is one of the movies that inspired Star Wars and is heavy on the wacky sidekicks, a pair of bumblers who make C-3PO and R2-D2 look like the replicants from Blade Runner.
