Tron Legacy: The Seven Best Things About the New Trailer

Just when I think I can't get any more excited for Tron Legacy, I do. A new trailer for the 30-years-in-the-making sequel to Tron was unveiled at the San Diego Comic-Con, and it's got a bunch of mind-blowing new imagery that makes the film look even more kick-ass, plus some more plot details get teased! It's getting to the point where I have to play Daft Punk on a loop just to keep myself from trying to climb inside my computer looking for adventure. Read on to see the trailer and read what stood out to me in it.

7. Cinderella Castle gets Tron-ized.
Okay, it's not actually part of the movie, but I get a kick out of movies that tinker with the studio logos at the beginning of the film. In fact, it's become so common nowadays that I actually get disappointed when a movie doesn't do it. So I felt a mix of elation and satisfaction when I saw the Cinderella Castle in the Walt Disney Pictures logo rendered in black and blue, with blue spotlights shining out of it and the lights of a metropolis on the horizon. If only they could make the real castle look like that come December!

6. Merchandising, Merchandising!
We already knew that Flynn (Jeff Bridges) had made a video game out of Tron, but did we know that it was such a licensing juggernaut? Young Sam's room not only has Tron light-cycle toys in it, he also has Tron bedsheets! Did we even get those in 1982? All I can say is, they'd better make linens and bathtowels for the new movie. I need to sleep and bathe in Tron!

5. Don't Be a Disc!
Man, Ultimate Frisbee just got a lot more vicious. In the original Tron, losing a disc battle meant that you got de-rezzed, which was a fancy term for "turned into a glowy ball of energy and erased." In Legacy, it looks like the disc tears through your chest, breaking it down into its component pixels. Is it because they're using Aerobies now?

4. Olivia Wilde Is as Hot as Her Car
We'd seen pictures of Wilde in costume, and pictures of the light-car (a four-wheeled light-cycle), but this trailer gave us more footage of Wilde in action and even showed her driving the vehicle. I don't know if it's the short, black bob or the tight, black bodysuit or the fact that she owns a glow-in-the-dark car, but she looks even better than she does on House.

3. Fighting on the Ceiling
Someone call Lionel Richie, because I need him to write me a song about the gladiator match shown at the end of this trailer, where the combatants crash through the floor they were fighting on and end up standing upside-down on the opposite side of the glass. Where they continue to fight.. Hello, is it me you're looking for? Sorry, I've been watching this trailer on a loop all night long.

2. "I am not your father, Luke-- I mean, Sam!"
The first teaser footage and the subsequent teaser trailer showed us two Flynns -- one old and bearded, one young and suited up for action. The young one seemed to have a mean streak in him, and looked to be palling around with red Control-program goons, but now we know that not only is he the man in charge, he's not Flynn. An earlier, anonymous tip said that this was Clu, Flynn's program who was supposedly destroyed in the first movie. Bitter much?

1. Two Words and a Hyphen: Light-Plane.
However you spell it, the editor of this trailer knew what he or she was doing by ending it on the young non-Flynn jumping out of an airship, and on the way down activating a yellow-light mini-jet around himself, just like he would a light-cycle. He then flies off with a boom, which may or may not have been the sounds of millions of geeks' brains exploding.

Honorable Mention: It's Three, Three, THREE 3-Ds in One!
The last trailer boasted that the film would be released in IMAX 3-D and Disney Digital 3-D, but this one adds Real-D 3-D to the list, as well. Someone will have to go see all three and tell me which one looks the best.

Check out the trailer below, then let us know what you liked or didn't like about it! And read why I wish the movie was still called TR2N.
