BLOGS
Everybody is talking about how creative and original Christopher Nolan's Inception is, but it turns out Gyro Gearloose thought of it first. The inventor/anthropomorphic goose actually invented his own shared-dreaming device back in 2004, in an Uncle Scrooge comic book, and the Beagle Boys tried to use it to get the combination to Scrooge's giant money vault. Did Nolan read a Disney comic book six years ago and forget about it? Or did somebody plant it in his brain while he was sleeping? Out of curiosity, we skimmed through our comic book collections to see what's what, and found that all of Nolan's movie plots can actually be traced back to kids' comic books and comic strips. Scandal!
Memento (originally seen in Archie & Jughead)
A particularly dark issue found Archie living in a motel with anterograde amnesia. All he could remember was that his wife Veronica was raped and murdered, and he needed to find the man who did it, a man named "Reggie M.," which was the name tattooed on his chest.
Insomnia (originally seen in Dennis the Menace)
While playing cops and robbers one day, Dennis Mitchell accidentally shot his pal Joey dead. Mr. Wilson, who witnessed the event through the hedge, agreed to keep quiet about the shooting if Dennis kept quiet about the fact that Wilson murdered young Gina and buried her in his back yard. Dennis was willing to play ball, but when that buttinsky Gloria started sticking her nose where it doesn't belong, things came to an explosive head.
The Prestige (originally seen in Calvin & Hobbes)
Following a tragic magic-trick accident that took the life of Susie Derkins, Calvin and Hobbes have a falling out that leads them to put on competing magic shows. When Calvin is unable to figure out how Hobbes can be in two places at once, he turns a cardboard box into a Duplicator machine, which produces extra clones of Calvin that need to be drowned at the end of every performance. (Due to content concerns, this series of strips was not run in most newspapers.)
Following (originally seen in Heathcliff)
Heathcliff the cat liked to follow people, but when he followed a flamboyant cat in a scarf and a floppy hat, the cat, named Riff-Raff, made Heathcliff come along as he flipped over people's garbage cans -- not even for the food inside them, merely for fun. Once Heathcliff started flipping garbage cans on his own, Riff-Raff framed him for all of the cans Riff-Raff himself had flipped, as well as the murder of his girlfriend, Clea.
Batman Begins (originally seen in Richie Rich)
After his parents Richard and Regina Rich were killed in an alley in one issue, Richie decided to use his considerable wealth to travel the world and learn the ways of the ninja. Upon his return, he enlisted the brilliant Professor Keenbean to design a suit of armor for him, as well as one for his dog, Dollar, and with an array of weapons at his command he defended Richville from the evil forces of The Onion, Dr. Blemish and the sinister Jackie Jokers.
