Superheroes rule this week's releases with iron fist and bespandexed crotch.
Iron Man 2 (DVD/Blu-ray Combo)
Yes, this movie has Robert Downey Jr., Sam Rockwell, Don Cheadle, Samuel L. Jackson, Gwyneth Paltrow and Mickey Rourke trading barbs and jabs with abandon for half of its running time, and hot mecha-on-mecha action for the rest of it, but if you only need one reason to buy this deluxe Blu-ray/DVD set (or even the two-disc DVD), it might as well be this alternate opening, where Tony Stark makes his first appearance by drunkenly vomiting into a toilet on a military cargo plane. Stay classy, RDJ.
Get Him to the Greek
Normally, Jonah Hill + Russell Brand = us drilling holes in our skull to let the demons out. But this comedy manages to build on the good will generated in our hearts by Forgetting Sarah Mashall. Plus -- Diddy! (Also available via Movies on Demand.)
Coco Chanel & Igor Stravinsky
It's a great romance, but imagine if it was an action-packed cop drama, with Anna Mouglalis as a fashionably dressed homicide detective, and Mads Mikkelsen as a piano-playing narcotics detective who cries blood. Much better, right?
The Killer Inside Me
Casey Affleck has since come out to reveal that he's not really a sociopathic small-town sheriff who beats his prostitute girlfriend. Also, Letterman had no idea.
Superman/Batman: Apocalypse
The story that re-introduced Supergirl to present-day continuity has been made into an animated movie in which Superman punches Darkseid hard in the face, and the two-disc set comes with an exclusive Green Arrow cartoon short. It's like they're telling me not to watch Smallville.
Dark Night of the Scarecrow
Speaking of DC Comics characters, this movie's title totally belongs on some Turkish knock-off of the Christopher Nolan Batman movies. To the Tumbling Car, Bat-Hero!
One-Word-Title Releases of the Week:
Babies Babies around the world are shown going about their daily lives. Unfortunately, in some developing countries, that involves an eight-hour workday.
Good Viggo Mortensen plays a German author whose work is co-opted by the Nazi party. (Luckily, he's not Stephenie Meyer, or we might have been in trouble, there.)
Frozen In oddly coincidental casting, Shawn Ashmore, who plays Iceman in the X-Men movies, plays a man who gets stuck on a ski lift with two friends over a long, cold weekend. Why, oh why, couldn't one of them have been his twin brother?
Suck A punk band blows up when their bassist becomes a vampire. Loosely based on the story of No Doubt.
