Darren Aronofsky and Wolverine: Made for Each Other?

Everyone has been all aflutter over the rumor that celebrated auteur Darren Aronofsky will direct the second X-Men Origins: Wolverine movie, and now it's confirmed, straight from the Logan's mouth. While Aronofsky has worked with Hugh Jackman before and is arguably the best there is at what he does (and what he does is so, so pretty), many are questioning how the dark director will handle the New Avenger. But Jackman himself is quick to point out that Wolverine is far from cuddly, and we wholeheartedly concur; if you ask us, the franchise could easily go a lot darker. In fact, if you look at Logan's comic book history along side Aronofsky's body of work, you'll see a lot of similarities!

The Fountain: A man, played by Hugh Jackman, lives in several different eras and is constantly in pursuit of the source of eternal life, even into space.
Wolverine: A man, played in the movies by Hugh Jackman, has been alive for several decades and doesn't seem to age. He has also spent time in space. With space pirates.

The Black Swan: A ballerina has to undergo a radical personality shift in order to embody the darker role of the Black Swan.
Wolverine: A soldier is implanted with false memories and bogus identities in order to embody the perfect black ops assassin.

The Wrestler: A wrestler, who has a terrible relationship with his abandoned daughter, plans a rematch against his old opponent the Ayatollah, even if it kills him.
Wolverine: A warrior, who has a terrible relationship with his abandoned son, had repeated rematches against his longtime foe Sabretooth, until he was forced to kill him.

Pi: The application of a power drill to a man's frontal lobe causes him to lose his ability to do math and revert to a simpler mental state.
Wolverine: The removal of adamantium metal from Wolverine's bones causes him to lose his ability to speak and to revert to a more feral state. Also, his nose disappears.

Requiem for a Dream: A man imagines himself living an alternate life with his girlfriend in order to escape the reality that his infected arm has been amputated.
Wolverine: In an alternate reality, Wolverine has had his hand amputated by Cyclops' optic blasts, in retaliation for stealing his girlfriend.
